Hello all! I am a new Bunny owner, and my boyfriend has just finished building her a little condo, but we still need non slick flooring for the space. I’m looking at the home depot carpet tiles, and I think those are a good option since we’ve got her mostly litter trained.  She sometimes leaves some little pellets in her run area, but not too many.

Do you experienced owners think that’s a good choice?  We haven’t put the condo together fully because we also still need to get fencing for it to be completely done. I can post a picture of what it looks like now if that would help.

We just want any suggestions, or reassurance that these carpet tiles are a good choice.

        Thanks!

I don’t know much about carpet tiles, but some rabbit chew and dig carpet. I’d think the biggest concern would be making sure the bottom of the tile is not made of anyting that could be hazardous to the rabbit if ingested.

I use carpet tiles for my bunnies. They hold up really well and are low enough pile they can’t really dig the fibers out. Occasionally they nibble on the edges but not enough to really seem to matter. I like that they can be almost waterproof so if there is an accident or water bowl tipping, it’s easy to clean up. And you can take out the soiled ones individually and replace them while you clean rather than the whole floor at once.

I use linolium. I got a remnant at a carpet store and didnt have to pay anything. It cleans up easily and my bunny doesnt chew it.

I might also check out our local thrift store first as well to see if they have any good low pile rugs/pieces of carpet

Definietly recommend Linoleum flooring. Someone mentioned already that it is easy to clean – very true – but it also stays nice cool in the summertime, even if the room is hot. My bun likes to stretch out on it and cool off!

I used a mat for workout equipment for Brier’s condo. It’s waterproof, antibacterial, super sturdy/durable, and really easy to cut to size and wipe clean. I bought the large roll of it at Walmart for $19 and just ziptied it into place.

BrierRabbit is that an ordinary mat or is that a seagrass mat? Does the bunny chew the mat? Curious because I want to try that as well.

It’s an ordinary mat for workout equipment. I’ve never had any problems at all with him chewing it. It’s very heavy duty so I doubt he’d get very far anyway!

The brand also offers the same thing in puzzle piece form rather than a large roll.

I LOVE carpet tiles! If you get them, I HIGHLY doubt you will have any regrets.

Barnaby Bunny and I move once a year (college student) and they are so easy to customize!! I specifically use pet tiles, which are insanely durable. My cat and rabbit (and previously birds) both love the material and it is impossible to stain. Even if you spill water, you can easily and immediately dry it off. The only bad thing, hay does stick to them a bit. Not enough to bother me. They also make great entry mats if you have extra. You can cut it down to size with a boxcutter if you need to (they are about 1/4 inch thick with rubber underneath the carpet part). And they come in tons of different colors and textures. I have had mine for 5 years now and they are almost in “like new” condition still.

I got mine for free from a friend, but I did a quick search and mine are similar to this: http://www.wayfair.com/4urFloor-Kaleidoscope-24-x-24-Carpet-Tile-in-Assorted-KC124UF-FURF1001.html

So I am in the process of building a rabbit house for a pair of outdoor rabbits. We have all the materials but have just discovered the floor panels (plywood sheets) have mould inside of them. Not the kind of white furry mould more just dark green inside of the wood. I am worried this might not be safe for rabbits. I will cover up the wood with carpet, newspaper and fleece, etc but please could you get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you
