They could have broken the toe or multiple toes. It’s a good idea to take a look around his enclosure to see if there is any grated area or something he could have gotten it stuck in. My Pete broke his front toe by running full speed and bouncing off a corner of his wire condo, by sheer luck hitting his toe dead-on the wire. They’ll take x-rays, ask you how long it’s been since you noticed, and how you think they did it. Pete had his toe re-set and had a splint put on.
My tips for splints: Get puppy socks and ICK/no-bite to soak it in. The puppy socks you can buy at the petstore and they slide over casts/splints pretty well. The ICK or no-bite is to keep them from chewing. Peter went through 4 casts and still tore it off by the end of week 3, when he was supposed to have his cast for 4 weeks. Bitter apple seems to be hit or miss with bunnies, but is another choice for keeping them from chewing. My Pete doesn’t like it, but will stomach it long enough to chew through it… My Tilly thinks that it’s candy-coating in a spray bottle.
They’ll probably also send you home some basic pain meds (we had metacam).
