I was carrying stuff in from my car tonight, and I apparently stepped on Whisky’s foot on my way to the kitchen. I didn’t even feel it, so I think it was maybe just her toes that I stepped on, or maybe I just kicked her and didn’t actually step on her. I don’t know exactly.
Anyway, she’s limping and favoring her left hind foot. She won’t put weight on it, and isn’t crazy about me touching it. She’s jumped off the couch a couple times okay, but won’t land on it. She refuses to eat her greens (she did have a little piece of kale and a little piece of spinach, but won’t touch the rest, which is VERY unusual for her—she usually scarfs down her greens), but I did get her to eat a small bowl of pellets no problem, and she ate an apple chip. She’s groomed her favorite pillows a bit, but otherwise she is definitely not herself.
She’ll let me pick her up without much struggle, and I can pet her without an issue unless I get near that hind foot, and then she tenses up.
I tried the only emergency vet in my area but apparently they don’t do rabbits. The only vet in the area that does is an hour away and won’t be open till 8am.
My current plan is to make sure she’s comfy for bedtime, and remove most of her greens, leaving just enough so I can tell if she’s eaten any. If she keeps eating and doesn’t seem to be doing any worse, then I’d rather hold off on the vet visit for another day and see if she improves. But at the same time, I definitely don’t want to do anything that’s going to put her at risk for worse injuries.
My gut is telling me this is a sprain, and not a break, since she doesn’t seem to be favoring it that much (like, she lays on it no problem, she just doesn’t want to stand on it). She won’t let me get a really good look at it, but with the little bit of a look I managed nothing seemed majorly wrong.
I guess I just need someone to tell me that either yes, she should be fine in a day or two and to keep an eye on her in case things worsen, or no, I’m being a horrible bunny mama if I don’t take her to the vet straight away in the am.
