  I contacted a local netherland rabbit breeder and as we were talking I found out they have a 2 year old female currently pregnant with her 4th litter who has not successfully reared a litter, None survive much past birth. She has no maternal instinct … Long story short, I asked if this litter is not a success if they would consider letting me adopt her.
  
  At her age she needs Spayed almost immediately for the best chances of no cancer long term.
  
  I was thinking of setting up a gofundme for the spay cost as I did not expect to be paying for a spay so soon , Do you think this would be a good idea? Do you think anyone would be willing to help?
  
  there is no guarantee I will get her, waiting to hear from the breeder.
  
  I will no longer even consider getting a kit from this breeder, And I have since found a local rescue that will transport. But this female needs out of this situation.

  Have you looked around for any low cost spay/neuter in your area? I would do that. I don’t think you need to spay her right away though…wait until you have the money if you do get her.
  
  I hate those gofundme things – I guess it’s just my generation. I don’t think it’s right to ask people for help for something like this….just my opinion.

  They don’t do low cost rabbit spays here. Cheapest is $100 plus painkillers.
  
  And I understand. I don’t know that she will stay here or be my pet my goal is simple. Get her out of there.
  
  I would never ask for day to day help with a rabbit. or general expenses for a pet I just feel this situation is a bit different.
  
  It’s just bad timing. My dog is due for shots soon as well.

  That is a very good price for a spay….much cheaper than what I can find in my area.

  It’s still a decent expense when you weren’t expecting it for 4 months … or to adopt an already spayed female.
  
  I really don’t think her breeder wants to give her up. I just hope they will give her a chance at a good life… not in a wire bottomed cage outside with almost no human interaction

  They honestly sound like backyard breeders to me – why would they continue to breed this rabbit is beyond me…I understand about the expense but you wouldn’t need to spay her right away and in fact, if it were me, I would wait awhile to make sure she is healthy enough and transition her to a good diet and just let her acclimate to her new surroundings if you do end up getting her…she certainly could use a better life. It is sad to me though that these people will continue with their obviously bad breeding practices.

  I don’t know the whole story what I do know if this girl needs me and if I can get her out of there I will.
  
  My own boy won’t be neutered for a few more months but I have two pens 42 inches high. Each will have a 4×4 pen and a visual barrier between them so they can both be safe until their surgeries.
  
  Thano you for the advice, that makes things much easier. I just know I have been reading about 2 year old females and cancer and got scared

  I talked to the breeder more today … sounds like since she is their last BEW they plan to keep breeding her and won’t give her up. They offered me another bun instead and I told them no thanks.

  Poor rabbit – I agree this is not the type of breeder you would want to get a rabbit from. They obviously don’t care about the rabbits.

  I have no intentions to support this breeder. I told them if they decide to rehome the doe please let me know but that she is the only one I am interested in. Well technically I told them I would be interested in being a pet home for a retiring doe but none of the babies.
