Have you tried with 2 people, one holding and one clipping? The only way I can do my buns’ is the two-man method. My hubby holds them at his shoulder (baby burping style) and I do the nails. If they are especially agitated, I will just do 1 paw per night for 4 nights. And always follow with a treat immediately afterwards so they know it’s not all bad. This method can be used with a towel wrapped around bun if necessary. When we first started this with my stressed-out Miss Olivia, we even tried covering her eyes, which seemed to help a bit. Not sure why, but it can calm them down a bit sometimes.

We do two man method as well. Hubby holds the bun, tight to his chest and I gently pull out each paw to clip.

Our first bun, Boston, was much easier. We would set her on a towel on the counter or table. Hubby would stand over her and pet her and I would be able to gently pull her front paws forward to trim. Then hubby would stand next to her head and pet her and I would gently pull her back legs backward. I do NOT recommend this if your buns are kicking and jumping but we got Boston as a baby and she got really used to this method and never fought it.

Always follow with treats!

Why can’t you burrito them? I wasn’t sure if you meant you haven’t had success doing it, or if you can’t even do it that way for some reason. If it’s the former, you aren’t doing it right (which I know is easier said that done with a struggling bun!)

What position are you holding them in? For me, the easiest way (for both cats and buns) is sitting them on my lap kind of like a baby. I can use my thighs, chin/head, left hand, left arm and right arm to restrain and still be able to clip with my right hand.

All I can say for the meantime is keep at it. Go slow (1-2 nails at a time) so it’s not a horrible ordeal for them, and give them treats before/during/after. They will mellow out and get used to it. I have had luck covering their eyes.

You can also try local groomers, some may have experience with rabbits and your rabbits may be “stress-tame” during the visit. But IMO slow and steady is best. You will get there!

I have found that with my bun, if I put him on the kitchen counter (no towel) and he has to rely on me holding him against me to not slip (since he can’t get a grip with his feet) he will calm down and let me do his nails. Obviously you have to be careful to not let him slip or fall off, but I’ve found this is what works and I can hold him against me long-ways along the edge of the counter and clip the nails on that side. Then I turn him around to face the other direction (right or left) and do the other front and hind foot.
