On Tuesday night Olly came to live with me, I have never kept a male rabbit before, Olly is my first male rabbit, he has been neutered and had all his injections, he was neutered on the 23rd of March, on Wednesday his cage was very smelly so I thought I would clean his cage, I closed my door and he came out, he did not let me pick him up, so I left him, I got his things to clean his cage but he ran back into his cage and banged his back foot, he pushed my hand out of his cage when I was trying to get things out of his cage, so I left him and gave him a few greens when he had finished banging about and he kept sniffing through the bars so we had a little chat, today I let him out and let him run about and I started on his cage, he came back sniffed my legs and sat down, I covered him with the top of his cage because I was worried he might chew the computer wires, I am waiting for a friend to help me put the wires out of reach, he was under the top part of his cage and was banging his foot again and making a grunting sound, I just ignored it and carried on cleaning his cage, when I finished he went to his cage on his own and was not happy, he threw everything about, I covered half his cage so he has a hiding place, again after all the banging and grunting sounds I gave him some greens, then tried to stroke him, he wasn’t having it, but we can have a chat through the bars, sometimes he will let me stroke him on his head with a finger, that’s about it, he will come to his bars when I call his name, I always wash my hands before touching him and after and before and after giving him food, I wish he would let me pick him up and let me hold him, I know I’m a stranger to him, but I have had rabbits and from day 1 been able to handle them, is there something I’m doing wrong? A lady from a pet shop said to just pick him up, but bunnies don’t always like this, if he was in danger then yes, anyone know what to do?
