  i don’t have plans or anything but with the summer fast approaching i’ve started to think about my sitter options should i decide to go away
  
  so far we’ve only been gone overnight and those times we’ve just put dennis in the bathroom because it’s big enough and she can’t get into trouble really.. the only major problem with it i see is that there are no windows.. i put a nightlight on a timer but i donnno it seems kinda mean .. not so much over night but a week with no light?
  
  i only kept her in a cage for the first week or so that we brought her home and when she was spayed (for 1 night, not the recommended 2 weeks ) it was just a small dog cage i had lying around that i put on it’s side.. it’s still their for her she goes in it regularly but i don’t shut the door ever.. i planned on getting a nice big cage for her but she hates being locked up sooo much .. she just shakes the bars and acts mental like a crazed prisoner so i gave up on the idea pretty fast
  
  so i guess i have four options: 1) have someone come in once a day and check on her in the bathroom 2) buy a nice big cage and have someone come check on her once a day 3) buy a cage and bring her to someone else’s house 4) boarding facility
  
  options 1 and 2 i think are my preferred .. she came from a dog pound so she might be okay in a boarding facility but i got her in december and she’s only recently started to really come out of her shell.. i saw her binky for the first time this week! i wouldn’t want to send her to a strange barky place and have to start all over again .. same with option 3.. also, i don’t know how many people i know are prepared to deal with a crazed rabbit in their home for any length of time, cage or not
  
  so what are you guys thoughts? what happens to your rabbits when you go away?

  I think I’d favour a sitter, that way she doesn’t have to move environment, which could be unsettling.

  What about buying a large xpen and attaching to the cage so she can have the large cage and also pop out and play around a bit. This isn’t the best scenario, but I think its better than the cage alone or in the dark bathroom.
  
  Plus no light in the bathroom and no windows seems like it would be stuffy

  My biggest concern with only having someone check on her once per day is that they might miss if something is wrong. A couple days would probably be fine, but any longer would make me personally worry.
  
  Maybe check with your vet or online for rabbit savvy pet sitters? We got lucky with our pet sitter; she runs the local Companion Rabbit Society and has everything she needs to watch buns plus she’s savvy herself so will notice if anything isn’t quite right.
  
  Or, maybe you could have someone stay at your place? We considered that too!
  
  Good for you for being proactive! The bathroom for more than a day sounds kind of lonesome, but at least it’s very spacious!

  I’d go with the cage/xpen setup with someone checking in (although someone staying at your house with her would be even better). I’ve always hesitated with the bathroom thing because we have nice oak vanities that my buns would chew on. A dark bathroom for a week just makes me think of prison solitary confinement on movies.

  thanks for the input guys.. i was gonna go with cage x-pen and sitter but i thought of another possibility that i think would work for us best
  .. i can put a barrier up near the front door and the bathroom so she’ll get the bathroom, hall and kitchen ..that way she’ll have a great big area, some natural light .. and i can have someone come in to look after her
  
  i don’t know , does anyone think a radio on might help her cope? i’m not sure if my rabbit gets super lonely.. she’s kind of a loner heheh but she does like to hang out.. on her terms

  We used to leave Boston alone for a few days at a time w/ someone checking in. We never left a radio on, but then again, we didn’t really know what we were doing back then!
  
  I guess it depends if she likes music? I think Pumpkin would hate music going–she doesn’t like sudden changes in beats. But maybe something soothing/classical?
