Hi, everyone!
I have two lovely buns, Kero-chan (11-week old Lionhead) and Suppi (9-week-old Netherland dwarf).
A week ago I noticed Kero-chan sneezing, around once every 10 mins. There seems to be a clear watery discharge whenever he sneezes. A couple of days ago, Suppi started sneezing too, but it’s less frequent than Kero’s sneezes. There’s also less discharge. We’ve just been to the vet yesterday and he took a swab of the mucus, left us a for a while then came back saying that there’s no bacteria present… Also had a negative mite/parasite test because I was concerned about some dandruff flakes in Kero’s ears. This is the third time I’ve had him tested for mites from two different vets, and all came back negative.
The vet just prescribed us vitamins to mix in their water everyday, then to come back in a week’s time if there’s no improvement.
I’m just so worried because my Kero-chan’s sneezes seemed worse and more frequent since this morning, around a couple of sneezes every few minutes, but it’s not a sneezing fit. The sneezes are still a few seconds apart though.
We’re going to another vet on Tuesday for a second opinion… There are only three rabbit-savvy vets here in our area in the Philippines. The third one is only available during Thursdays, and I cannot go to him because of my work sched.
As for why the sneezing started, I’m still trying to figure it out.. Can rabbits get infections from cats? Because a few days before Kero-chan’s sneezing started, a stray cat went of to a window, and sneezed. Also, the summers here in the Philippines are terribly hot. I give them frozen water bottles to lean on, hoping those would help.
Has anyone experienced a case like this? I am so worried about these buns. I love them so much. I’m also on my 11th week of pregnancy, so I’m hoping that they can get better soon since it’s going to be tough to move around pretty soon.
Hoping for your inputs.. Thanks so much!
