  This is day # 3 following Pepper’s Neuter. How long before you let them run around and play with other kids/animals? Our Vet’s instructions were to keep him “quiet and calm” for 7-10 days! How the heck do you do this, with a rabbit who wants to get out and play with the kids and our dog? Yesterday I wasn’t at home all day (i’m a back up sitter for our county and was called in to babysit from 8:30-3:30). so he was confined to his pen until my girls got home from school. His pen is in my 12 year old’s bedroom, and she did let him out in her room for a couple of hours last night. But he wants to come down the stairs to the main part of the house (her bedroom is upstairs). Today i won’t be home in the morning either, i’m getting ready to take my 16 year old to her endocrinologist appointment (she has type 1 diabetes). I just don’t want him hurting himself. This surgery cost me close to $300!

  BTW he’s used to being out of his pen. Normally we let him out when the girls get up for school (around 6AM) and then he goes back to his pen when they go to bed (around 10pm). The exception is if everyone has to leave the house. Then both animals are put in their pens.

  For boys it is not as intrusive. He will want to be quiet the first day. Most will start to eat within 12 hrs (any longer than that and you need to feed critical care). I usually let my boy buns out after 3 days but check the incision areas to make sure they are healing properly and he hasn’t interfered with them.

  Pepper doesn’t like to be held so not sure how i’d check the incision. He started eating as soon as i brought him home, so 4 hours after surgery. He ate at the vets too, because they wouldn’t release him until he ate.
