If you’re planning to get a friend for your bunny then i’m sure he would prefer one of the same species. Although i think rabbits and cats can get along, it’s very different from the relationship between two bonded rabbits. When two rabbits are bonded, they tend to really stick with each other, groom and cuddle, really they mustn’t be separated from each other AT ALL!! Wheras from my personal experience, the rabbits and cats just tend to do their own things.
Plus rabbit and cat behavior is not the same either. Your bunny won’t be able to communicate with the cat they way he would with a bunny friend. Cats play differently and very roughly, sometimes using their claws which most rabbits would not appreciate.
Ultimately i think it depends on you. You don’t need to get another rabbit unless you really want to! Nigel may be perfectly fine on his own. And if you really want a cat then you should go for it but make sure to adopt one that can get along with rabbits.

If you really want something that will velcro itself to you primarily, a dog may be more what you’re looking for.

I agree that a rabbit would enjoy another of it’s own kind much better. But make sure you are aware of the work involved in bonding two rabbits. It can take weeks, sometimes months. And bonded rabbits tend to want to spend time with each other more than with their person.

I’ve had as many as 5 cats in my house with my rabbits and none of my rabbits and cats were friends. Mostly, they just ignored each other, as is the case with my current 2 cats and 2 rabbits but my Bridge Mini-Rex used to enjoy aggressively chasing and teasing my cats. There are cats and bunnies who get along and even want to snuggle together but I think it’s pretty unlikely they would become great friends. They are very different, after all. Prey and predator.
