So I did something horrible today. I was cleaning up the kitchen, I had my headphones in listening to music. I turn around the walk out of the kitchen and I kicked chuey and it knocked him back about a foot. It wasn’t a hard kick but I felt horrible. And this happens way more than you would think. I let chuey stay out all the time (I officially transitioned him to a full time uncaged bun) so he just seems to always be in the way. I’m used to the dog being at my feet, I know he’s there, but chuey is so small and quiet that he just seems invisible at times. He now follows me wherever I go. He figured out that if I go to the kitchen, it’s a good chance he can get some food from me. And he likes to flop over onto my feet. So I guess I have to get used to him being so close to me. Do you guys ever trip over your bunnies??
Mine run circles around my feet in their areas so I almost have to scoot my feet to keep from stepping on them or falling. Scares me half to death!
Leopold has been accidentally kicked so many times I’ve lost count. It doesn’t make him any more wary though, he still rushes for my feet every time I come near.
I have to be very careful not to trip over my bunny or step on her feet, since she is often underfoot. With another bunny in the past, I was once walking and suddenly turned to go in the other direction. I had no idea that my bunny had been right behind me. My foot caught her, lifted her up and launched her a couple of feet across the room. She was luckily not hurt, but it sure scared me.
ughh glad it’s not just me
while i’m in the kitchen prepping food or washing dishes she will stand directly behind me about 10cm from my ankles.. little deathtrap
the other day i was bring her some kibble and she bolted out in front of my foot and i booted her across the linoleum about a meter and a half!
i try to shuffle around when i think she’s underfoot but sometimes i lapse.. she doesn’t seem fazed though
is it bad how hard i’m laughing while reading these? I’ve never had that happen to me before but I guess it’s only a matter of time.
Mmhmm. It’s impossible to not kick or trip over mine. If you stand up, they immediately run at full speed at your feet and run circles around them, expecting food. I keep telling them if they would let me WALK they would be more likely to get food faster, as I don’t have to scoot my feet across the floor at a snails pace to avoid kicking them and could actually get the food for them at a normal speed…
We call it “punting the rabbit.” We never have a problem if they sit still when we pass…. but they have an uncanny habit of hopping right into our path when we try to walk by. No one has ever stepped on one of ours (crosses fingers)….. not in 22 years of having house buns. But we’ve punted them quite a lot by accident, luckily there has never been a serious injury to one of them as a result (US on the other hand have experience some big bruises incurred at times trying to make sure we DON’T hurt them and end up sacrificing our own knees/elbows/body parts to save them).
I even had a rabbit that learned that if she threw herself into our path and we punted her by accident, we’d always stop and dote on her and give her rubs/snacks and apologies – so she started doing it ON PURPOSE. They are such stinkers sometimes.
yes, that has definitely happened a few times over the years. Freaks me out!!! Because you can accidentally cause injury. (knock on wood). So I learned to shuffle when I come around corners and through door ways (which seems to be the areas that I am not paying attention when I go past them.
I flat out sat on Pumpkin last night. She’s been extra needy since we got Shamrock. When to sit on the couch and before I knew it, she had hopped up and under me. It scared me b/c she started cricking her neck all funny, but then shook it out and has been fine. But they really are just so quiet!!!
I think worst I’ve done is accidently knocked Marlee about a foot away. The bunnies were groomingbeach other in the litterbox and I was laying on the floor and closed my eyes. I felt something on my nose and thought it was just some bunny fluff so I flipped my hand to brush it away. Turned out to be Marlee whiskers.
Yes all the time! Why do bunnies have to run right in front of your feet while youre walking? At nighttime I make sure the night light is always on in case they escape from their enclosure.
OMG JR! I do that too! Henry will jump on the bed before I am awake and get’s right in my face and his whisker’s tickle my cheek. You know what happens then? Eye’s still closed – swoop/swipe trying to get the offending fluff off my cheek – Henry! What is he doing so close to my face while I am asleep anyway??? Mmmmm……..
I am like LBJ – I can’t tell you how many times I have sent Henry flying with my foot. I am a bugga for getting up before the sun on occasion and without turning the light on while trying to walk quietly to the kitchen I have connected with Henry so many times you’d think I should be used to it, but I’m not. It still scares the crap out of me! Of all the places for Henry to lay, why the doorway/hallway???
I sometimes wonder if he does this for fun??? Or is he after my life insurance payout??? LOL!
Pete is not graceful.. and he tends to have poor timing to boot. He likes to try to run between your feet as you walk, which more than not results in either him bouncing off your ankles or landing on your moving foot. He’s been bumped, and “punted” a couple times… but I think the most dramatic one was while we were in a hotel. Peter LOVED the bed, and the hubby was fast asleep. Along comes Pete up and down the bed, stopping to sniff the hubby’s face and then it happened–FLYING BUNNY. Aparently he caused my hubby to have a dream about a giant shrimp running up him from his foot, and woke up and flug the “shrimp” with the blanket! Pete went soaring off the bed from the head to past the foot, then just kind of stood there on the floor in shock a moment before taking off for the chair and window to continue his adventures like nothing had happened. lol
Giant shrimp CT??? I’ve heard it all now…….
LOL!
Yes and I always feel terrible about it.
We have birds too, so I’m careful to watch my feet, but sometimes Mordecai runs out of nowhere.
Ive never kicked my rabbit but he’s is always behind me so i have tripped over him before, he always thinks its a game to make me trip over him XD.
Yup! My husband and I have both accidentally kicked our bunny before. We panic every single time but she seems unfazed.
She loves racing behind us down the hall and getting in front of us before we can get to the fridge. It’s pretty much impossible not to trip over her from time to time no matter how cautious we are! She also finds it smart to run straight at our feet at full speed so we have to jump out of the way. LOL
Before I got her, I read about how fragile bunnies are. I really have yet to see that. My bunny has wiped out trying to hop on the couch, been kicked accidentally, zoomed straight into walls, and every time she binkies straight after like nothing happened. If I did these things I’d be in the hospital. ?
I probably trip over or kick pepper everyday. He is constantly underfoot. Loves to chase me around the house
So, now that we’ve had Tilly a while, I should add that she gets underfoot EVERY DAY. Her favorite thing to do, after bathing people, is to put her head directly under your foot. It doesn’t matter if your sitting in a chair or trying to walk across the room or stepping over a gate. If there is a gap between your foot and the floor, she thinks that’s where her head belongs! So needless to say we’re getting very good at balancing on one foot and nudging her with the other so that we can put our feet down. Sometime she’s a bit off on her attempt and ends up running into your foot either with her forehead or her full flank as she goes for the other foot. She isn’t phased though.. just very demanding of attention. lol
Iv come to the conclusion honey wants to kill me since she tries to trip me so much and iv fallen a few times. I feel bad when i kick her but she just continues to go for my feet , maybe she likes it or something but i feel so bad lol. Im glad im not the only one that has this problem. I guess its the price for free roaming bunnies
I fear for the day i accidentally step on my bunny. that will be disastrous.
I’ve tripped on them before, for sure! Not sure about kicking them, thankfully, haha!
Hi!! So almost every day I trip over my rabbit, Violet. I also accidentally “punt” her across the room! I feel so bad but she always runs around and binkys afterwards! She never seems hurt or to care. I think she does it to manly get treats and pats. I try to be so careful by scooting not taking big, fast steps, but she is silent and appears out of nowhere!! She is a dwarf Hotot angora lion head mix and she has free run of the house. She is no more than 3 lbs, I have no idea how she never seems hurt, but she always runs right back over to me. She will gaze up at my face like she likes it!! She does it to my Mom and Dad too! I felt so relieved to read this and to hear that I wasn’t the only person this happens to. She is my first bunny and I love her so much and it makes me feel sad when this happens! Obviously it is common!!
Welcome to Binkybunny Violet & Gwen! Indeed, accidentally bumping or gently “kicking” a free-roam rabbit is not uncommon. They are stealthy, silent, and quick! It’s always good to learn to shuffle the feet, as you never know when one time may be “that” time where a rabbit gets injured unfortunately. That being said, as the topic suggests, it can many times be harmless as long as we owners are careful.
