› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Bunny sounds like a squeaky toy? Sick bunny
So I’m up with Harley again tonight. He started making these little wheezy/ squeaky toy sounds again and its gotten worse tonight. I have him isolated and watching his eating and drinking and such. What concerns me is when I checked his underside, it looked like blood or reddish urine around his boy bits. I wiped it off and he seemed a little, um, inflamed or something? Usually bunny bits are all tucked up inside, but things seemed to be poking out a bit. Could be he just went. Anyways…..if anyone has had something similar, let me know. Thanks!
Soooo. I may have overreacted somewhat. He’s back to eating and eliminating just fine. His bottom is clear and urine looks normal. Still making weird noises. But he was happy to go back with his Bruno.
I’m glad he’s OK. I wish I knew why he made the weird noise.
Yay over protective mommy! Lol
Glad he’s okay! ![]()
There is no nasal discharge Brunosmama? Perhaps he has a sinus problem.
This poor bun. He is wheezing/squeaking a bunch. Bruno is grooming him constantly to help him feel better. I’m calling the vets for sure tomorrow. No discharge, dry nose and eyes.
breathing with mouth open or raised chin?
No, mouth closed. He keeps laying out stretched and he’s breathing hard. He looks like a cat hacking a hair ball when he wheezes.
Poor guy. Hope you can get him to the vet tomorrow.
Poor guy!
((((Vibes)))) that it’s nothing serious and he gets better soon! ![]()
OK, Harley is drinking on his own and I’m still syringing him a pellet/nanner mush. He nibbled some hay. He has been in the bathroom since early afternoon. He has not pooped or peed. However, he has a yellowish discharge coming from his bottom and his bits seem to be sticking out a bit (as opposed to all tucked in) I’m calling the vet first thing….anything else o can do to help him? Thanks!
I’m sorry I’m not much help… I just wanted you to know I hope he gets better soon, and I’m waiting for some good updates!
How’s he today?
(((VIBES)))
Any update today?
UPDATE: well, it turns out we have a very sick bunny. The vet feels he has a blockage in his digestive system that may be pushing on his bladder. He is neither pooping or urinating, although he keeps trying. The vet said we need to see a specialist immediately, who is an hour away. However we called them and they said most likely it would require surgery (which is risky) and could cost up to $2500.00. Unfortunately, my husband and I cannot come up with that amount (we couldn’t if it was for a car, a bunny, or a plane ticket. We just don’t have the means) so the vet gave him a pain shot and antibiotics, and said to keep pishing food and water in hopes it will move through whatever is there. We take him back tomorrow for another pain shot.
And to make things more interesting, Bruno is upset about him being sick and has developed poppy butt. Fun! Ugh.
We have Harley on his own, letting Bruno snuggle with him a bit at a time, because we’re watching for poops/pee.
Honestly, this sucks. Its tearing my husband and me up. But, if the worst happens, we can say we did the best we can do. Sigh.
Thanks for all the well wishes!
Sending vibes that whatever is blocking stuff will go away!!!!

I hope that it manages to clear up.
It’s always hard when your options are limited.
Keep up with regular doses of the simethicone too. My vet explained how it worked when I had Pascal in for stasis and he seemed to think the worst it would do was to help keep things moving and certainly could not do any harm.
I do understand the financial limitations. Keep doing what you can within your means. That’s the best thing right now.
The fact that something is being eliminated, even if it’s loose stools, that’s a positive sign.
(((Get Well Harley))))))
I moved him to the couch on some cozy blankets. Its warmer and I can watch him well. Our kitty Dinah, who is Harleys feline love interest, has been snuggled beside him for more than an hour now. He seems rather comfy with her there.
Also, the vet said the squeaky noise he’s making is probably his pain sound. But since the pain.med shot, he hasn’t hardly made a sound. I hope that means he’s a bit better.
Thanks everyone. ![]()

Midnight update:
Just got done with his meds and dinner. He’s definitely peeing more. Poor thing smells strong of pee. Iv been trying to dry him off, but I don’t wanna hurt him moving him around. He’s starting to get fiesty about all the syringes being poked at him lol. He has been having moments of alertness and fussing over his messy face/chin. He is also starting to chew/mush his food around in his mouth. Before, I squirted it in and he let a lot just dribble out.
Overall, I think there are some small positive signs. Still no poop though.

Tuesday afternoon update: I think Harley is on the mend. He has made some poops, first just mush, but now soft balls. Yay!!! Never been so happy to see poops in my life! He’s getting rather cranky about all the messy syringes and has started stomping off my lap before we’re even done! Lol later this evening I am going to put some hay on his blanket and see if hes interested. Bruno is doing OK, we’ve been letting her sit with him a lot. She has a bit of upset tummy poppy butt, but otherwise seems OK.
I think all of the prayers and well wishes from you guys and my family are working! Thanks so much! ![]()
Glad to hear a good update ![]()
Great news, little bugger had me worried.
So happy he’s improving! He had me worried!
Us too! Lol I’ve been staying up til 4am and getting back up a few hours layer the last few days. I’m exhausted.
I think he may be getting into that “I’m not sick that much now, but I still wanna be babied” lol He has been snuggled in a blankie all evening, eating hay and drinking some water. And working on cleaning up the mess I made of his face with the syringe. ![]()
Well, I may have cut back on his feeding and stuff a bit too soon. This morning he hasn’t touched his hay. So I set him back in with Bruno, and he seemed kind of uncomfortable again. And no poops this morning. Back to his bed on the couch and syringe feeding. Shoot. I think he’ll be fine, I just don’t think he was quite to feeding himself yet.
((((Harley))))
I kept up the critical care and baby gas drops for several days even when Pascal looked to be eating again, I wanted to be sure he was getting enough food and fibre and at least that way I could be sure.
