Hi Everyone!
So a few things happened when I was cleaning DaBunnah’s cage today. Let me start by saying I am still in my medical boot and I am on doctor’s orders not the squat or kneel; makes it tough when its time to clean his cage, as it is close to the ground on cinder blocks but I do it anyway.
Second I usually take off my jewelry when I go outside to do a cage cleaning just out of habit. My parents had birds that when we cleaned their cage were attracted to shiny objects. I forgot to do that today; He first noticed my wedding band and chinned it. I chuckled and continued to clean out the old damp hay so that I could replace it. It’s been foggy the last several days here so everything is damper then usual. Including his cuddle towel that he didn’t want me to take out.
About a minute later I am trying to dig his toys/salt & mineral lick out of the corner he shoved them in when I hear snuffling by my ear, I look and I just see his adorable little bunny nose not even an inch away. I don’t know if he was trying to groom my hair, or chin it, or get at my earrings (stainless steel horse shoes), but there he was. He realized I saw him and jumped over my arm away from me. Then looked at me like it was my fault he was that close. I finished up, refilled his hay, brought his towel in with me as it is time for it to be washed, and headed inside.
Is it normal for rabbits to go after shiny objects? Or was he just being sociable? I have read that sometimes bonded pairs will groom each other, could he think of me as another rabbit? Let me know please.
