So, I’m given to understand that the good people of this forum like helping prospective bunny parents pick out the perfect name for their fuzzy little bundles of joy… ![]()
M and I are officially getting a french lop and we’re struggling to come up with a name that fits. We’re currently considering Harry and Thomas (both names of characters in a series we love) but the jury’s still out. I think he kind of needs a… “sensible” name, if that makes sense? Otherwise I’d be perfectly able to dig out some obscure bizzarro name from some mostly forgotten mythology, but any “unusual” names I might have considered don’t seem to fit. I don’t have a picture of him just yet, but I’ll be happy to post some when we bring him home
Until then… physically he’s a broken grey and white – not sure of the specific name whether it would be grey, blue, steel or whatever. He’s got a very calm, placid temperament (especially considering he’s still quite young at 24 weeks) he’s a friendly little chap and given that rabbits don’t tend to be big on being picked up and snuggled he seems to be quite a cuddlebug which is adorable. Obviously there’s only so much of his personality we could infer from the time we spent with him, but from what we’ve seen and what we were told, he seems like quite a sensible, if not entirely serious-all-the-time sort of boy, so kind of the opposite of the little madcap we have already.
Unusally for me, I think I’m looking for a sensible, maybe even “old fashioned” sort of name and I’m rather drawing a blank here. I think M is secretly relieved that Wisakedjak is officially off the table since he insists it’s unpronouncable
Any suggestions anyone?
George. Name him George, and hug him, and pet him, and squeeze him.
Sorry, the broken blue and white made me think of Bugs Bunny cartoons and being cuddly he sounds like a George.
There’s also Gossamer (Goss or Sam for short)… just because he is such a trusting adorable thing that loves to be groomed, but can be destructive, too.
(I’ve got Looney Toons on the brain tonight.)
Lol George sprang to mind with me too – when I explained that, I was told it was creepy and don’t squeeze the bunny lol
I like Floyd. That’s what we were going to name our Flemish Giant. For some reason I feel like it fits a big, easygoing bunny. ![]()
Albert ? Edmond ? Octavius ? I rather like Octavius. (I think aside from the obvious historical value it was also the name of the mini centurian in the Night at the Museum movies)
Oh Gosh! I’m a huge fan of older classic names – Henry (lol!) and my dog’s (female) are George and Sam with the male being Frank. I can’t believe it, I am having a block – huh??? Let me think a bit and I’ll get back to you….. ha ha ha ha!
Oh, I like Octavius! That’s a great name!
Liam is a nice name too.
Wilfred!!! Lol!
It just came to me – no thought needed!
BOB! Yup, perfect. Bob.
William or Wil for short
Tobias
Fred or Freddy
Gremlin
Hobbit
Gypsy
Sam
Theodore or Teddy for short.
Don’t worry, I’ll come up with more later.

OH I forgot to as Louis (Lou-E)
Sir Gerald Greeneater
Lord Raddish Finnegan
Lord Jonathan Cuddly
Earl
Cornelius
Bertram — Bert
Englebert!
Reginald — He could be Reggi!
Hubs and I wanna name our next bun Leonidas lol.
Eustice
Harold
Hector
Napoleon
Wilmer
Geoffry
Mortimer
Albert
Sigmund (siggy!)
Benedict
Hmm. All for now!
Do I need to come over and give you a smack BM???
LOL!
READ your avatar!!!
Saw this thread, said rather loudly OH NO! The hubby got worried for a second? (Don’t worry Kyrkrogrimr, it’s not you!)
Alfred, Wilfred, Sir Bunjamin Bunny? I am BAD with names!
I’m sorry LEL, I guess I just couldn’t resist such an obvious opportunity at mischief
I think M would approve of Albert, he keeps coming up behind me and mimicking Death from the tv adaptation of Hogfather
I was also thinking the Teddy or Theo might work.
Cottontail, I think if we called him Sir Radish Finnegan he’d just end up being called The Radish Spirit. We watch too much Studio Ghibli in our house. Having said that… He’s (going to be) pretty huge, he’s grey and white… anyone else connecting that with Studio Ghibli and getting Totoro? x_x
PIerre since he’s French.
Or Etienne – it was my husband’s name – he was French – it translates to Steve.
Cottontail — LOL! Now I may have to get another bunny and name him George just so I can say that!
AH — I don’t think I could name a bunny Wilfred. There’s a not-so-family-time show about a dog named Wilfred. I would always think of that. I can’t believe you didn’t suggest Manny . . .
JR, I actually thought of that when AndHenry suggested Wilfred. I like the show, in fact hubby and I just finished the third season. But you’re right, it certainly isn’t family friendly. And it does kind of ruin the name Wilfred…
Hazel — My hubby and son joked about changing Moshi’s name to Wilfred before he was neutered. I poo-pooed that, but when someone suggested Bear for Marlee, that was an easy NOOO!
Totoro is cute. I’m not fully clued up on the reference but I have general idea.
I still like Octavius. ![]()
I think we’ve more or less settled on Theo, unless we get him home and it doesn’t seem to suit him after all – it’s one of the few names we’ve been able to agree on that we both like and we think suits him.
MoxieMeadows – M keeps telling me I should name him Bob, after a character from the Dresden files. I agree with him that Bob (the character) is awesome, but I just don’t like the name >_> Also, Puck was originally named Bob, so that would probably get confusing ![]()
Incidentally, our french lop is going to be huge O_O You should have seen his dad, I’m pretty sure he’s part bear.
They also had a beautiful harli french lop I was tempted to sneak out under my jumper >_> I think they might have noticed though ![]()
Theo? Like Theodore?
Cute! You should still get him a Totoro plushie to play with… just because.
Yeah, short for Theodore – He can get the full name treatment when he’s naughty! lol And I agree, I shall have to get looking hehe
James,
or Max (who was a bunny here that I was fond of, before he crossed the bridge.)
Christopher Robin since he is like a bear.
Or Paddington.
Paddy.
Sebastian
Maurice
Edward
How about Alphonse or Sebastian? Also I love the name (and the show) Wilfred.
EDIT: Woops, posted before I noticed that you settled on a name. I like Theodore!

Hazel — My hubby and son joked about changing Moshi’s name to Wilfred before he was neutered. I poo-pooed that, but when someone suggested Bear for Marlee, that was an easy NOOO!
LOL!!! That would be hilarious! And SO wrong!
Poor Marlee, I hope she has never seen the show… If she ever did, I wouldn’t want to be in your son’s and hubby’s shoes! ![]()
Kyrkogrimr: Theo is a great name! When do you get to take him home?
I think the name Theodore would fit a big and cuddly bunny. ![]()
Ooop’s! Sorry! I haven’t heard of the show Wilfred over here….. as naughty as it sounds (???) if it’s anything like the Family Guy, I think I’d enjoy it too, ha ha ha ha!
Even though the name has been decided, I have to admit I like Sarita’s suggestion of Steve! How cool having a bunny named ‘Steve’! Lol!
It’s that one with an Australian actor in a dog suit and Elijah Wood plays the neighbour whose life becomes mixed up with him and his politically incorrect antics….. Been going a few years now.
Steve, I like it.
If I ever get another bun to be friends we Moxie (NOPE not a CHANCE! HA HA HA) I’ll consider naming him Steve.
Teddy is a wonderful name. There’s actually this GORGEOUS lionhead at my local bun rescue named Teddy. ![]()
OH!!! I know it! Thanks Roberta! I only watched it once….. I haven’t seen it on TV since – and that was years ago. No wonder I didn’t remember it. If it’s still playing here on TV, I wonder what channel??? But yer, thanks for the heads up Roberta, I honestly didn’t make the connection.
And yer Moxie…. Steve the bunny! SO cool! Ha ha ha ha ha…….
Edit to ADD – The name of the show (Wilfred) still doesn’t mean anything to me…. but Roberta’s description – I knew the show straight away!
LOL!
AndHenry: I think it’s actually worse than Family Guy, at times…
But yes, if you like Family Guy, you should like Wilfred. Actually, I figured you probably knew the show, because the original was an australian tv show. The one with Elijah Wood is a remake.
See Hazel….. I watch too much ‘American’ TV! LOL!
And I do have an open mind, especially with humour and comedy – if it’s funny, I watch it! I really appreciate a good sense of humour!
PS – But there is a fine line…. I don’t appreciate ‘nasty’ humour.
So what’s the final word on names?? You need something that flows off the tongue easily as you’ll be saying it a lot!
We went with Theo
We both liked it and it suits him. He’s turning out to be a major cuddlebug; moreso than I’d even thought lol With me a least, he’s less interested in cuddling M, so he really is Puck’s polar opposite lol Puck can’t get enough of M! I’ve had lots of grooming from Theo, both of skin and clothes, which has been novel lol
Awww Very cute and he will look like a Theo. Very distinguished. I have heard that the French lops are amazing rabbits and may consider one sometime in the far distant future.
He is a beautiful cuddly boy, who seems to like spending as much time as possible sitting on my lap. Even if there is fresh veg to be had, he’d rather have it sitting in my lap; even if that means fetching it and climbing back into my lap one piece at a time ![]()
Oh My Gosh! I’d never get anything done!!!
