Hi all! Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. I’ve got a pair of bonded flemmies that are free range in my house, and I’m going to be fostering a second pair of bonded flemmies a bit this spring to free up some space at a local rescue and give the buns some time with a little more room. I’ve fostered them before, and I’m here asking for any suggestions or experience you all might have with best ways to house these two sets of big girls most harmoniously. They specifically do not and should not get along, as there’s not really a possibility of my adopting the fosters.
Last time, I kept the fosters in my office and had my girls running around the house as usual, but that made it 1) hard for me to get much work done and 2) a zone of detante at my office door, with all four buns frequently sitting on either side of the door sniffing at each other. I think it was stressing them all out, and there was a lot of territorial marking on both sides.
So, I could do that again, but maybe be more thoughtful about how I place barriers to avoid the door nose-to-nose situation. Other alternatives include keeping the fosters in a smaller area that is basically a hallway to my back door, which would block the back door, or putting them in a bun-safe environment in my garage (e.g. good temperature control, lights, soft floor, etc. but less human interaction).
What have other people done with fosters?
