My rabbit had an inner ear infection at the end of September. The result was a slow recovery, but he got better. Still, he continued to itch his the ear with the infection. I noticed a funny sound from the ear when he itched it or shook it. Noted it to the vet, but b/c he was just getting back on his feet and he hates the 45 minute car ride, we decided to wait.
He seemed back to normal and happy. I took him in to get the ear cleaned. They discovered some pus and ulcerations. I just wasn’t ready for it. I was so stunned. It hasn’t moved to the inner ear. He is on oral baytril and baytril ear drops.
He is 8 years old with chronic kidney disease, but truly you would never know it to see him run and play. But it does mean the vet is careful about the kidneys.
After reading the posts on here, I know it can be a struggle to be completely rid of ear infections. Just wondering, if baytril doesn’t work, will they try other antibiotics? Other options?
