Currently in the process of bonding my girlfriends rabbit pepper (neutered male) and my rabbit elly (unspayed female) they actually are getting along great, but even though pepper has been fixed for a month he still humps her crazily, it is getting less and less with each meeting but it seems like after his every say 5 or so mounts elly mounts him. I feel as though he is still hormonal and elly just wants to be the dominant one. Pepper circles elly constantly and that is when most mounting takes place. During mounting both rabbits are very receptive to it. The only way I think I can tell that one is somewhat dominant is elly poops everywhere in the neutral area

But good points are they groom each other alot even though when one asked for grooming it does not happen, they give it when they are ready, both lay down next to each other a lot and eat with each other a fair amount

So experts, how does things sound like they are going?

by the way this picture was taken 1 hour after the official meet, they were doing so well with zero fighting and no hair pulling or boxing I just let them go for 4 hours

Sorry if my first post was a little confusing, I was keeping an eye on the 2 buns while typing

Humping is still persistent with every meet, now pepper is thumping when elly mounts him, guess I’m just going to separate them until 3 weeks after ellys spay

It’s been 5 weeks now since peppers neutering but he still circles her like crazy and wants to mount her. It’s definitely from being hormonal since pepper always has an erection around her

Correct me if I’m wrong but is this just a case of pepper wanting some from elly and elly just wanting to be dominant?

            Welcome to the forums!

When did you introduce them again after his neuter? Sperm is still viable for 4 weeks after his neuter. If he had any contact with her during that time there’s a chance he could have impregnated her.

My advice would be to wait until 4-6 weeks after your female is spayed to try bonding. What you’re describing could be hormonal or dominance related. There’s no way to know which until both are spayed/neutered and hormone free.

We introduced 4 weeks after his neutering, I seen that males remain fertile for up to 4 weeks after

Elly is getting spayed in the next week, next question is would it be best to Keep the cages near each other Or In Separate rooms? I’ve noticed pepper looks like he gets frustrated when he can’t get get to her and thumps after just a few minutes

I’m guessing separate cages as well and try again in 5 weeks after her spay
