Thanks for sharing this. Your timing couldnt be better! Im moving soon and it’s most likely my buns will be in pens, sharing a room. Pictures definitely give me inspiration.
I had a hard time adjusting to the thought of it as currently they are in different rooms. But i did a side-by-side pen set up last week to see how they’d go and have been surprised at how well they adjusted to it. They were very curious about the new space and havent had any squabbles. Much to my relief!
It’s good to see how well your two adjusted to the change also.
Is this done with 2 dog crates on top of each other? I’m thinking this could be good for my single bun TimTim who’ll be in a different room. I’ll likely leave it open, but it would be great way for him to have a high perch instead of using my bed.
You’re welcome.
It’s actually a “midwest indoor cat playpen”, I rearranged the shelves, so two are side-by-side to make the big shelf, and I put a piece of carpet on it, and one is used to get up to the top shelf, with a towel on it, I zip tied them all down because they didn’t seem very sturdy at all. Also, they’re slippery, so I always have something on the shelves. But, there’s doors on the top and the bottom, so you could probably separate the top and bottom with a piece of wood on wooden dowels or something similar, and give them each one of the shelves that comes with the cage if the rabbits need to be separated.
I got the idea when I saw the shelter where I got the Trouble Buns had these types of cages for their adoptable kittens, and immediately went online to find one and had it shipped, then went and adopted the Trouble Buns about a week or so later.
Here’s photos of the cage from online, I bought mine from walmart.com for 110$ at the time, but as I look for pictures I see that some places have the cage for about 80$. I also should mention I ziptied the sides and corners of the cage too because it wasn’t stable enough for my liking. And I didn’t bother with the casters (Wheels) because they were rather flimsy. This isn’t the best made cage, but it’s not bad, there’s other types of cat cages that are similar to this that are more expensive and not so flimsy. It works well after I modified it and made it more sturdy.
