Hi everyone,
Our 4.5 month old Flemish broke two bones in his foot last Wednesday night, with the most epic clumsy dive out of his litter box that I have ever seen. He literally tried to hop out, caught the lip, and faceplanted. Anyhow, he put in a splint on Thursday. It looked like it may have slipped a tiny bit yesterday, but today it’s noticeable– I can clearly see his heel, whereas before, the whole foot was wrapped nicely. I think he’s been working on the “no chew” wrap a little a time.
My question is this: I have an appointment with his bunny-savvy vet tomorrow morning at 8 am. Do you think it will be ok to wait until then to have them check his splint? My only other option is the less rabbit-savvy emergency clinic. Since he was anesthetized for the splint to be put on in the first place, I don’t love that option since they’re much more cat/dog people, and of course being an emergency clinic, it is extremely expensive. By the same token, I don’t want an incorrectly positioned splint to harm him further!
Has hasn’t shown any changes in mobility, appetite, or bathroom habits.. he’s currently sprawled out like a frog, vs. the in-pain bunny loaf. To be on the safer side, I did block off half of his pen to reduce the amount of hopping around he does, but if anything, I swear he’s hopping around MORE now. I really don’t want to restrict him further as I think he’d just get really stressed by it– he’s a baby and wants to move!
