  I wanted to post some alternatives to the hayracks normally recommended for rabbits. I made 3 types of hayracks – one larger wooden “gravity” type feeder and two from NIC shelving/ Modular Grid shelving but because the grid spacing was too small on them (as well as on the bars of his pen), the hay remained untouched. I tried cutting some of the bars on the NIC grids, but to no avail. My rabbit just wasn’t able to forage through the hay and I didn’t want to risk injury to my lil guys neck by cutting through plastic to modify small bins so I still feed hay to him in his litter box – but my goal is to have him eat most of the hay, as opposed to having him pee on half of it.

  Thank you for posting these! I’ve been trying to think of an alternative to the hay rack I have now (hooks onto the cage) since Pillows llikes to knock it over and into her litter box.

  I spent an afternoon making a large hay rack out of NIC grids and cardboard once.
  My rabbit Jersey, who wouldn’t eat hay, spent half an hour pulling all the hay out!
  
  I hope you’ll find their one that will work for your little guy.
  
  You might like the Ikea bag holders. They can be mounted vertical or horizontal. They seem bigger when you see them in person as opposed to an image.

  I do want to add; the owner had posted a warning for others make sure rabbits didnt have access to that open end. The bun got into a bit of a pickle at the time. Bun was fine.

  Here’s my alternative to the hay rack. The hay basket. Theodore often sort of stands in it with his front legs, but he can easily reach all the hay and seems to like it well enough.

  I think the Ikea bag holder (posted by JerseyGirl) can additionally have its open end temporarily attached to the cage bars by a medium padlock or by one of those combo locker padlocks used for Middle Schoolers, as a solution to stuffing it with a plastic bag so that rabbits don’t get their bun buns stuck inside.

  Funny-looking-rabbit, sometimes the simplest solutions, like the haybasket, are the best ones!

  I bought Louie a hay barrel from Carter’s pet mart and he loves it! You can hang it on the side of the cage, stand it up using the wire stand, or take it off the stand and your bun can roll it around so it doubles as a toy and feeder. I posted a link below

  Although, I’m not too sure about the bottom right. I can imagine a bunny making their way up into the container.
  
  I don’t use hay racks myself, but I’m always interested in the ideas. I use oaten hay and its stalky and sometimes really long. It’s just not suited to racks.
