My buck is young, healthy and in good mood.. Since males have a lower risk of developing cancer, I don’t want to give him neutered right away unless it become necessary in the future.

I will have a doe for his companion.. so I want them bonded. I believe they can be well bonded.. But only problem is how to “fix” them. Getting spay is absolutely better way for females, that’s what I’m going to do.

Can I put them together if one is spay and the other one is NOT neutered? Any potential dangerous.. like fighting or something?

He might try and have sex with her which could upset the female and could cause a fight. I am sure there are more reasons too.

It’s generally recommended that both parties are spayed/neutered. If you leave your boy unneutered, he may become very frustrated because he wants to make babies and, hello, there is a girl right here. Your spayed female will not be interested in mating, so the unwanted attention could spark fights.

I agree with LBJ. It’s really recommended that all rabbits be spayed/neutered for 4-6 weeks before attempting any bonding.

My question is asking the same lines: I to have a unfixed male, and a fixed female. Im so worried if I get him fixed that a)he’ll die in the process, or b) he’s actually gotten sweeter since our doe came along. He humps her whenever they’re together,.and I feel bad for her. Is there anything I can do or give him other then fixing him, that would calm his hormones?

                Thanks!

Bugs & Ruby- Putting together intact and altered rabbits isn’t recommended. In the hands of a skilled rabbit vet neutering is really a routine sort of thing. I’ve had 3 boys neutered and all of them bounced back and were acting normally(eating, pooping, ect) within a day or so. There’s not really an alternative to neutering when it comes to reducing hormones.

Do you have a rabbit savvy vet?
