  I thought my vet had prescribed Ciprofloxacin to Moshu but a visit to her yesterday, she told me its Enrofloxacin (Baytril/Bayrocin).

  Here, MediRabbit says 5-15 mg per kg is considered safe.When they said that, do they meant 5-15 mg/kg once or twice a day ?

  The vet has prescribed 25 mg once a day. Her weight is around 1 kg. (Last we checked it was 1.2 kg.. so around that).
  
  Also, that article on MediRabit says :
  
  ” 1) High dosage treatment (20 mg/kg) over a longer period of time may lead to seizure. 2) Cartilage damage in juveniles.”
  
  Two things that I want to know are :-
  
  1) Whether the dosage prescribed is safe for Moshu (considering her weight and age, which is 5 – 6 months)
  2) How long is considered prolonged ? I have already given her this medicine for 10 days and the doctor said I could do a 21 day course if I want to. Today would be the 11th day.

  My vet has always prescribed this twice a day. Frankly that information from Medirabbit is very vague and I have no idea what is meant by prolonged use. I know many rabbits are on baytril frequently and it’s very rabbit safe.

  I used the calculator you gave me (I had completely forgotten about it). It says 5-15 mg per kg every 12 hours. That means 10-30 mg per kg a day is safe. She is on 25 mg a day. On the higher end but still safe. I have decided to complete a full 21 day course.
  
  I am relived to know that Moshu has been given a trial and tested medicine.
  
  I was given these small tablets by my vet which I crush and apply on apple or banana and feed it to her. Sometimes she nibbles a bit of the fruit, goes away and comes back to nibble away after 7-8 minutes. Is this a bad way to give her the medicine ?
  
  The vet did not give me suspension, I guess that would have been much more easier. *sigh*

  Any way you can safely get it into them is a good way. Lol
  This method is less stressful for her too. You’ve done well. I don’t think if be able to fool mine to take the fruit.
  
  If it helps to know, I had my rabbit on 0.8mls baytril for at least 25 days when she had head tilt. I think that’s 20mg but I can’t find the invoices to check for sure. She was about 1.2kg at the time.

  It can be either. On that chart, the far right column has medical short hand for “once a day” and “twice a day”.

  I follow this trick of keeping her hungry for 1-1.30 hours. That makes her hungry and she eats the medicine filled chunk of fruit, even if she is suspicious that there is some ‘foreign element’ in it. If she has an option of not having that fruit, she will choose not to have it. So I make it obligatory for her. I know its not the best way, but it works.

  My Gus just came off a good month of Baytril. It was once a day. I’ve been told it depends on the vet whether they dispense it once or twice/day

  I am glad Gus was benefited by Baytril. For how many days he was on it ? We’ll do a course for 21 days. 5 more days of Baytril. As far as I can tell, so far, I think Baytril is helping Moshu too. *fingers crossed*
