Theodore is ill.
I’m not yet sure exactly what the issue is, but after talking to a member of the adoption organization from where I adopted him, she thinks it’s probably a blockage caused by ingested fur, or possibly gas, though his stomach does not feel hard or bloated.
Right now he’s doing okay – clearly in some mild discomfort, but still willing and able to groom himself (I groomed the dickens out of him to try and reduce the amount of fur he might further ingest) – and not accepting his favorite treats. He was apparently fine up until three hours or so ago, according to my boyfriend.
I am extremely worried, but Jen (the woman at the adoption org) reassured me that he will probably be fine. I’m taking him straight to the vet tomorrow first thing, so I’ll be sure to let you all know what happens.
Send good thoughts and feelings our way. Any advice, tips, or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
Oh no!
The only advice I would have is to keep him comfortable and warm, and make sure he has plenty of his favorite foods to tempt him. You could also try some gas meds and tummy rubs just in case.

(((((((((((((((Positive energies )))))))))))))))))))) to you and Theodore from Australia. Yes, please get him to your vet asap and keep us informed. Hope he is ok and gets well soon.
Lot’s of vibes for Theodore… Hope he is doing better.

You could try and massage his tummy a little, if you haven’t already. I always give simethicone and a tummy-rub at first signs of suspected stomach discomfort, although it’s been a long time now since the last incident of that sort.

Good luck at the vet!

Your both in my thoughts!
((((( vibes for Theodore ))))) I hope he gets to feeling better. You are in my thoughts. Let us know how he is doing.
Thanks you guys for all your vibes!! It must have worked (and perhaps a bit of the tummy massage I have him last night after all your advice too!) because this morning he’s completely back to his old self. There are poops in the box, he ate a LOT of hay, drank some water, and polished off his morning salad when offered. And he’s back to binkies!
Last night nearly gave me a heart attack. So I’m going out today and getting a few precautionary things. Pineapple juice, simethicone (which I should have had anyway), etc. He’s getting a really thorough grooming this morning too!! Already brushed enough off to make a friend for him. XP
I also managed to make a functional warm up spot last night but I think those SnuggleSafe things would also be good to get. CriticalCare, too.
Is there anything else I should get so that I feel more prepared next time I’m scared to death? I feel like a bad bunny parent for not having these already, and I guess this taught me my lesson. Geeze.
No pineapple juice – this is full of sugar and frankly not helpful.
Glad he is better – it is probably not a good idea for anyone other than a vet to diagnose your rabbit anyway.

Good point. What do you think about papaya pieces to support digestion? I know people swear by the Oxbow papaya tablets, but they’ve stopped making those. :c
Happy to read Theodore is back to his happy self!
I had a poorly bun last week and even though I’ve seen it a more then a few times now, it’s still such a worry! Feels like you can breathe properly again when you see them acting normal and eating after being ill.
Additional supplies: Some oral rehydration sachets are good to have on hand. Canned pumpkin is supposed to be good assist feeding also.
Thanks!!
Yeah. That sense of relief is quite profound.
Whew! They can give us quite a scare. So glad Theodore is doing better!
I don’t know if this helps so take it for whatever its worth, but a while back I was on Leith Petwerks site and ordered everything from pumpkin to food/water syringes to chew resistant bandages to have on hand in my emergency bunny care box. I added simethicone to the box as well and keep Critical Care in the freezer.
That DOES help. I picked up some papaya tablets today (no sugar added etc) and some simethicone, and gave him a small dosage just in case he’s still getting through the gas. He’s definitely back to his old attitudes and behaviors and has had a good appetite all day today, but this evening he was much slower at eating all his pellets, even though he finished them all.
I also ordered some Critical Care just in case. Bandages would be a good idea, too.
Glad he is feeling all better and you are getting prepared for next time. ![]()
I’m so glad he’s doing better! Having an un-well rabbit is so scary.
