I’m gonna be honest, fleece flooring.. It’s just not working for me. Midas constantly pulls it, so little rolls appear and hide all of his poops.. This is becoming rather annoying. Not to mention the appearance just isn’t that cute.. Not that I am going for looks or anything, haha.
Basically, I was planning on doing a wooden base for the bottom, with just some stick on tiles.. Is that a smart choice?
Does anyone have this as there flooring? Does urine soak through or into the tiles?
The main reason I am looking to changing the flooring is because it is just difficult to clean the fleece. I of course would have a soft folded fleece in his Hidey house so he has a comfy spot to lay down in..
Would the tile give Midas sore hocks?
If the tile doesn’t work as a good flooring option, does anyone have better ideas that aren’t blankets? Thanks everyone!
(Just as a side note I do want to do the same base idea, but later.) Currently. I have my base as a waterproof tarp laid over carpet (It extends out of her housing area) and I actually use old bed sheets on top. (Once again, outside of her housing area, so she cant pull it all at once.) I use fleece and cardboard in different areas as well. The only thing about tile is the worry of sore hocks, but so long as you have different textured areas it should be fine. What i mean by that is you could have a tile texture, the fleece texture, litter texture, cardboard, ect. This usually prevents sore hocks. Another issue with the tile is that he may not be used to it and will have to adjust/learn to walk and stand on the tile. But most buns adjust. The tile will add coolness if he needs it during summer
I would also recommend stick on linoleum pieces; like tile they are easy to wipe down, but you wouldnt worry about any cracks in the pieces (In case urine fell through a crack/gap in the tile and got to the wood base) And you could always use thin bed sheets for traction thats pulled taught, so he cant hide poos under
What kind of flooring is in your room? ![]()
Carpet unfortunately is the flooring in my room. I have wanted hardwood for a while, but you don’t always get what you want
And you just described Midas’s current flooring perfectly, haha. A shower curtain is over my carpet, with an old bed sheet on top XD
And I am probably going to do stick on tiles, like you said, easy to wipe up mess. Would the urine soak through the stick in tile and go into the wood?
Only if there is a crack in the tile or you have gaps in the tile. Being careful and taking your time should keep that from happening though
And make sure to have a bit of different surfaces for him ;P
Yep. I planning on doing the whole thing stick on tile, a small pile of hay on one corner, his fleece bed in his Hidey house, and a couple cardboard woven mats around, plus the wood pellets in his litter box.
Sounds great! ![]()
Yep
that will probably be his christmas present.. Plus maybe a cottontail cottage if he is lucky, haha.
he certainly is a lucky bun ![]()
We found a vinyl floor remnant really cheap at a carpet/flooring store for Kieko’s condo flooring. I wasn’t able to find stick on tiles around here that weren’t slippery (the sheet vinyl we got looks like fake wood with texture following the wood grain). We also put a bunch of hay mats in there for her as well as a few pieces of fleece and her bed.
We spent a fortune putting luxury vinyl plank flooring in our bunny room only to find that Marlee won’t step foot on vinyl (apparently its deadly!). Our bunny area is 3 xpens stretched out and attached together around the area, pretty much takes up most of the room. So now, on top of the beautiful LVP flooring is fleece, attached to the xpens with binder clips! I buy fleece in 4 1/2 to 5 yard sections off the bolt, and it takes two pieces that length to cover the bunny area floor. It stays pretty tight, looks good, we clean any spots with Nature’s Miracle, and I just toss it in the washer once a month and put down the alternate set. Although my new floor is covered, Marlee is happy and I guess that’s what’s important!
I have used stick on tiles in a cage before when I had ferrets and urine did get in between the tiles. No matter how well I cleaned it started to smell and come up. I would go with a vinyl floor remnant if it were me. That’s what I ended up doing in their cage. One with texture is a good idea. You can go to home depot or other stores too and have it cut if you cant find a remnant.
Thank you Sindriona! That is so helpful
I will definitely go with the vinyl remnant instead of the stick on tiles. Do your rabbits get sore hocks from the vinyl remnant?
The cage where I used the tiles and then the remnant was in my ferrets cage when I had ferrets. My rabbits have a bunny room they are not caged. Vinyl flooring does seem to have a softness to it. It seemed softer than the stick on tiles I had. I am not sure if it would cause sore hocks. I will say I had vinyl flooring in my kitchen at my last house it was over concrete and it seemed soft. I dropped a couple of glasses on that floor and they didn’t even break. I got tile now and if a glass drops it shatters everywhere. hehe
Cool
I will definitely look into vinyl for his flooring. I am pretty much open to anything except fleece :p
I don’t blame you not wanting fleece. When I got my bunnies bonded I wanted to replace the carpet with something but I had a hard time coming up with good flooring ideas. I decided on a type of carpet that didn’t have long fibers that could be chewed and pulled up as easily as my other carpet. So far they do good on it except the little buggers dug the carpet up in 2 of the corners of the room. Its ok I can always get new cut at the home depot and it wasn’t expensive. I almost thought of have vinyl flooring cut and put in there but I wasn’t sure how they would like it. They are EXTREMELY spoiled and I enjoy spoiling them.
