I have extremely squirmy buns. And the technique in the video really helps. I do not recommend trancing your bun again. It may be what is causing them to become even more squirmy.

I didn’t watch the video so not sure what the technique is. Put a towel over your buns eyes. Have one person hold the bun while you clip. Took 5 mins and my bun never even moved. Prior to learning this, my bun would kick and jump an pant. Goo luck.

I have difficulties clipping my bunny’s nails as well. I think part of my problem is that I get nervous doing it and since they can pick up on our emotions, he will know I’m nervous and in turn it makes him nervous. On average it maybe takes me 15 minutes to clip his nails, but I have to burrito him and sometimes that doesn’t even work! My mom can clip his nails much easier, and she says she walks into the room feeling confident that she can do it and asserting that feeling, and I guess he cooperates with her. Maybe it would help if you try just taking baby steps…when you pet her, stroke her paws. Try just putting her in your lap one day, then another day clip one nail, and so on.

Pippin is not good about getting his nails clipped. I managed to do it once myself but it took several days and was not fun for either of us. Now I just take him to the local house rabbit society–$10 for a trim, WELL worth it to me! And watching all the other bunnies get trimmed, I can see that Pippin is definitely squirmier than most.

Haha I watched that howcast video before and actually trying it went NOTHING like the video! Back feet are okay to do, especially if he’s laying down just chilling. But the front were hard because he didn’t want me picking the feet up, so I had to do it with them down and distract him by giving him a carrot.

I cut Augie’s nails for the first time after watching that video, it went exactly the same! Even the back leg dance ;p It was a huge achievement for me because Augie hates being tranced (about two months ago my housemate’s date at that time stayed at our house a lot and she kept trancing him and claimed he enjoyed it, when we have a dinner party she would trance him for like 20 mins to show off to other guests etc., I know he hated it and always kick his back leg hard running away from her – just to clarify, I hated it from the beginning, but I didn’t wanna be rude to a stranger when they first started going out and I didn’t even know the relationship was gonna last, so I didn’t firmly stop her but only said “he’s not moving because he thinks he’s gonna die” politely, even my housemate kept telling her that Augie seemed stressful but I don’t think she listened or know the science behind it/believe that other people’s done research more than her. anyway, when I realised she came over way more often, I told her off the next time she tranced him. I also letting him stay in the condo when we have dinner parties). I was really worried he wouldn’t like any unnatural operation performed on him. I’m now so grateful for that video, I don’t ever need to trance Augie for anything!

I did find he tolerated my right arm holding better than left arm, either he ran out of patience by the time I did his left side (I did right side first) or he could feel my left arm is not as strong as the right one (I’m right handed) so he felt less secure being held. But overall, I managed to do all his nails by myself at first go and he still loves me so I would like to share some tips.

A couple of things I did:

1, Before our first nail trimming session, I let him free roam in the room as usual, and just keep touching his nails with my hand and the nail clipper, and feed him a pellet everytime I touch the nails

2, At the beginning of nail trimming session, I put him on the desk and just pet him for a while, he basically started dozing off, he would just let me stand him up

3, I would try not to feed food treats during the nail trimming, at least from my experience, as soon as Augie got a treat, he wakes up from snuggle mode and start to look for more, he couldn’t stay still since. So I just give him a million kisses on the forehead during the trimming, leave give food treats after the trimming is finished.
