Hey everyone! So my female spayed bunny is anywhere between 6-8 months old. I give her many hours of romping time and play per day but no matter how I try, my human love isn’t quite satisfying enough. I feel like she would be happier with a rabbit buddy (we have no other pets).

I went to the local shelter today and found a sweet female who is spayed and about 1 year old. They are going to euthanize her soon so I am thinking of adopting her. The people that worked there insisted beyond any doubt that my female would fight with the new female and they would never be friends no matter what…. I am not sure because they aren’t exactly rabbit experts…

Would spayed female/female bonding work? I would love to save this rabbit but I also can’t subject my current one to unnecessary stress…

        Thanks all!

A bonding of any gender mixture will work. Boy/Boy, Boy/Girl, Girl/Girl. All work. Bonding a bun in any sense is going to be a bit of work. It’s normally best to let your bun pick out her own mate. If you can, can you bring your little girl to meet this new little one? Or even if they don’t get along would you have the means to have two separate buns? That way she’s saved?

The humane society where I live wouldn’t even allow me to consider adopting the female when I went to go look at her. It was ridiculous because I am willing to put time into it. I will probably have my husband just go in there as a separate customer to adopt her instead. The humane society people told me that girl/girl bonding is impossible and is never successful, so thanks for the encouragement!

No problem! I know of several people who have a girl/girl pairing. It may take a while. I will definitely suggest doing litter swapping and putting their cages side by side. It will help the bonding process along.
