I had posted on here last week about Gizmo’s tummy issues that he’s been having and got a lot of great advice (thank you!)
I decided to try altering his diet a little. He was getting 1/4 cup of Oxbow pellets once a day (and unlimited hay and water). On Sunday I gave him about 80% of that and Monday I gave him a little more than half (1/8 cup?) of what he was originally getting. That alone has seemed to have helped a lot! I’ve only had to clean up two small messes this week and I haven’t heard any crazy loud tummy gurgles. He is eating a lot more hay. He always gets excited about food, but it seems like this week he gets extra excited so I feel a little bad that maybe he is hungry? I may try giving him his pellets twice a day rather than once at 4 pm. Also I am going to start introducing fresh veggies into his diet (and actually stick with giving it to him daily this time
)
Vet visit went well. Vet said that his tummy looked and felt good. Weight was good. He checked his front teeth and they were perfect. He couldn’t quite get in the see the back teeth but said from what he saw that there might be a couple ridges that will need filing. He offered to sedate gizmo with a light gas so he could really check but I opted to wait. He said Gizmo should be fine until next year and we can sedate and file his teeth all in one visit.
I know Gizmo has had his teeth filed once before, but the protective bunny mom in me worries about the sedation process. He said Gizmo will only be out as long as they have the gas on him. I’m wondering if anyone else has experience with an older bunny getting sedated (Gizmo is 7)?
As always, thanks for the support and advice!
