        Hello!

I’m posting this because I am just starting the process of looking for another bunny!

My current bunny is a dwarf lionhead.  He is quite shy, as seems to be common with smaller breeds.  He is between 2 and 3 pounds, so he’s very small.  I think that he would take on the submissive role in a bunny relationship, as he really likes to groom me and he is a bit of a scaredy bun.  We love each other a lot.

I do have a few questions about adopting a second bunny.  First, does size matter?  I have read other forum posts that say that it doesn’t necessarily matter.  However, because my boy is very small AND quite shy, should I mostly be looking for smaller breeds, say under 4 or 5 pounds?  Second, in your experience, what bunny personalities are the best fit for a shy bun?  I don’t want my bunny to be overpowered by a super outgoing or dominant bunny, but perhaps this wouldn’t be an issue.

Thanks a lot for your help!

          Hi, and welcome!
Do you have a local House Rabbit Society? You can bring your bunny in to set up “dates” with another bunny.
It is true, size doesn’t matter. I would get a girl bunny, a little on the dominant side.
Just bring your bunny with you to the animal shelter and you can see which bunnie’s he get’s along with.

Oh yeah, my bunines already came bonded, but Mocha was a shy bunny too, and she was bonded with a VERY energetic and dominant male, Rumpus, and it really seemed to bring out her real personality, and now they are a little bunny husband and wife

Personality matters more than size, for sure. Bigger bunnies tend to be more easy- going but that is not always the case. I would probably not want to get a huge bunny, just in case there is some aggression and your guy is so small. But bunnies are so unlike us, they don’t discriminate. Age, size, gender is not usually a big factor.

You may be surprised about whether your guy will be dominant or not. When I was bonding my two boys, the one I thought would be dominant was not.
