My sister and I purchased two small buns this afternoon from a local festival (I assume they are kits due to size, but truly have no idea) and as I was cuddling with both rabbits I spotted a gross little black bug crawling across my sisters poor white bunny. I had done a check on her rabbit, since mine is pure black and hard to spot creepy crawlers on and didn’t previously notice any parasites as we have two dogs at home (both recently protected against fleas and ticks plus kept mostly indoors) and wouldn’t have bought the bunnies if anything seemed amis. We allowed the bunnies out back after we brought them home, and I don’t know if the lawn is treated. Both bunnies had hair loss on their ears before purchase, which I’ve read to be a sign of fleas, and Stiles, my sisters rabbit, scratched constantly this evening.

I cannot take them to the vet until I return to my home-state in over a week, but I want to treat them ASAP. I read you could do a home remedy of a half vinegar, half rabbit shampoo mixture along with a vinegar and warm water spray to remove fleas and larve, but I fear ailment due to the water. There is a nearby PetSmart, if there is anything of use in the store.

Is the home remedy safe? I need the fleas gone.
