Hello. Thanks for lending an ear. I’m at the end of my rope, and am praying for a solution. I am an adult woman. Five months ago, I found a little Dutch bunny abandoned in a park (clearly not a wild rabbit). I took him to an excellent rabbit doctor and had him neutered.
Now I’m miserable, because he is vicious toward me. He is nice to everyone else, but if I get near him, he attacks me. And I don’t mean he nibbles. I mean he literally hangs off my wrist. We had him out in the kitchen, and he made a running leap and attached himself to the back of my leg. My arms are bloody all the time. I know rabbits are territorial. But even if I’m not in his territory, he growls and attacks. (Only me!) If I walk anywhere near his cage, he lunges and tries desperately to attack me.
I can’t feed him or change his water or litter. My boyfriend has to do it. I can’t put my hands in his cage, or anywhere near him. I bought raptor gloves that go up to my elbows and he still bites through even those.
Recently, we let him run around around the kitchen. I put on jeans, boots, a leather jacket, and my raptor gloves. My boyfriend had to leave the kitchen to do something, and the second he did, the rabbit went crazy attacking me. It was absolutely terrifying. I kept pushing him away, and he kept coming back back back!
I thought things would get better, but they keep getting worse. I was able to pet him when we first got him, and then he started biting, then he started attacking, and now he is in non-stop full attack mode all the time.
I have read everything about bunny care, and rabbit aggression, that is out there. Everything. And I’ve met with bunny experts at rescue organizations. And I have never heard of a case like this. I have read that when a rabbit does this, they are scared of you. (Even if they don’t seem scared in the slightest!) And perhaps that is the case. How do I get my bunny to stop attacking me?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can share!
