I’ve had my baby boy for roughly a week now (he is now 9 weeks of age), and he doesn’t seem to be taking to litter training outside of his cage. For starters, it seems as if he’s peeing in his cage-box when he’s in there at least, but he doesn’t really like to poop in there. I don’t mind him making a mess of his cage, but the carpet in my room is another matter entirely.
I know it takes longer with babies than it does with older bunnies, but I want to make sure that I’m not training bad habits into him by botching this early on. If he pees outside of his cage I wipe it up as soon as I see it (I try to watch him and see when he’s doing it, but honestly I’m rarely able to tell when it’s happening), and then put the dirty napkin in one of his litter boxes. I have one in his cage, and three spread out around my room. He doesn’t seem to particularly care for any of them. One I put by my bed, because he loves the spot in the corner there, but he just pees right in front of it now! It’s half filled with pee soaked napkins at this point.
Is Jinglebell just being stubborn, or am I doing something wrong? If so, how can I fix it? Is it possible that it’s because he’s been getting too much time out of his cage, after only being here a week? I put him in when I sleep and when I’m not here, but on average he gets between 4-7 hours out a day.
