I was supposed to bring home Angstrom and Kisses yesterday but good ‘ol Louisiana decided to flood so our local humane society couldn’t make their trip to the rabbit rescue like planned. It is now being planned for next Friday. I will be bringing home Angstrom and Kisses as well as a 30″ high, 8 – 24″ panneled x-pen. I already have a 30″x30″x48″ dog crate that they will be residing in, but I am going to expand it with the x-pen. Here are my plans –
Remove two pannels from the 8-pannel x-pen and arrange the remaining 6 pannels (24″x48″) into a rectangle. I will then place that on top of the dog crate and zip tie it in place. The remaining two pannels will be used as shelves in both the dog crate and the x-pen topper. The shelf in the dog crate will be on the right side, with the 24″ portions against the 48″ portions of the dog crate and the 30″ portion on the 30″ portion of the dog crate. The one in the x-pen portion will be the opposite way, however, but still on the righthand side. I will eventually get some NIC grids and make the second and fourth floors larger but I feel this would provide much more area for now.
How large should I cut the opening in the top of the crate so they can get through? Angstrom is a mini-lop and Kisses was just listed as a bunny rabbit but she looks to be a mini rex to me. They are very close in size, though.
I will post photos as I complete it to give everyone else ideas! The total cage cost without the NIC grids is $60.
