Hi everyone!
My giant flemish, Jude, is scheduled in for a spay operation next week. She is about 3 to 4 months old and apparently this is the time to get her spayed??? The surgery is going to cost around $300 (it’s a little bit less as she was already tattooed when I bought her). The vet says that she will have to wear a bumper collar and will be on pain medication. Can anyone give me some tips on how I can help her through the after effects of the surgery? She will be staying in her wire, open air dog crate (which fits my labrador retriever) while recovering so she will have room to move around but not overdo anything. How long does it generally take them to heal afterwards? I was going to keep her in a room by herself so that she isn’t stressed out by the dogs and family walking by constantly. She will also be alone for about 4 hours in the morning as well as 5 hours during the afternoon. Should I have someone come in and check on her while I’m out? I was planning on coming home during my lunch hour to make sure she’s alright. She is quite skittish still, as I’ve only had her for about a week and a half, but she doesn’t bite and is curious enough to come up and investigate my shoes when I sit with her in her play run. She was handled before I purchased her but I think the transition here has been a bit stressful. I plan on transporting her to the vet’s office in a plastic dog carrier lined with some towels- does that sound okay? Thanks everyone, and I think I’m more worried about this than Jude is
Ps. I asked the vet to do a full health check prior to the surgery as she’s never been to the vet before!!!
