So I’ve had trigger for a little over a year and I’m considering get another bun or two. The breeder that I got trigger from is holding a broken doe holland lop for me when she has a litter with what I’m looking for. The real question I have is who here has or has any experience with english angoras, or possibly any of the other angora breeds. I understand they much higher maintenance than other breeds which is fine I try to spend as much time with trigger as I can. Which may partly have to do with his very friendly personality or might just have got lucky. Either way if any one has any tips feel free to comment. Thank you
I have expierience with angoras! (please excuse any miss-spelling, I am holding my baby nephew for my sis-in law and typing with one hand.)
I currently have a female french angora.
What would you like to know? The angoras with less maintnence are french and satin. They have special guard hairs that help prevent matting. If you are in it for their fiber only, french/german crosses or english or german are the way to go. english and german don’t really have the guard hairs, so they mat easier, but they produce more fiber. If you like that little fuzz around yarn, known as a “halo” you want a french. note: you need to shear germans.
will add more later. ASK AWAY! ![]()
French Angora called Piglet…. My handsome boy and Daddy to 3 of my girls two of whom are short haired like their Mum and Blossom who is the image of her Dad…. I tried brushing but it was just beyond me, I found a fantastic groomer who has a long haired bun of her own who comes to the house to do nails and haircuts… It’s freezing here at the moment but as they are all indoors I am getting Piglet trimmed and Blossom a butt trim as she doesn’t tend to matt up like Piglet does… It cost’s me $25 per hour and in most cases it gets done in an hour…and the buns are happy and unstressed…
That’s Piglet in the second pic from the left of my sig with his wifebun Pepper… He’d just had his Summer do and was mugging for the camera after Pepper gave her approval of the new haircut.
Are Piglet’s babies mixed breed?
I also have a French angora, and use to have a jersey wooly (not an angora, but still a wooly breed!). What exactly are you wanting to know? My wooly was very low maintenance and seldom ever needed more than a quick run-through with a brush. My French angora is only 9 wks old. Right now I’m just spending a few minutes every night giving him a quick from so he gets use to it. I wanted an English angora ’cause they’re so dang cute, but I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the grooming. I’m terrified of wool block, so I sprinkle 1/4 top of flax seeds on Fox’s food once a week. Most of what I’ve read says to give it daily, but he is still just a baby. He also gets a papaya treat at bedtime.
MoxieMeadows, I love Moxie, she reminds me of an overgrown Rue!
Thanks, I think your angora (I’m having a brain fart, I forgot his name!!!
) is adorable too!
For wool block, I was so nervous of that too! When he get’s a little older, a small chunk of pineapple a day will help prevent it. Plenty of hay and water will help prevent it too.
Ahh-ha! Wasn’t his name Fox?
Moxie, your big girl is just so pretty. She has the most gorgeous eyes too!
Roberta – Lucky you! Home mani-pedis and haircuts!
What are the angora personalities like for the most part. I’ve read that most males and females are very inquisitive and enjoy human attention and brushing. I would like to hear if any one on here has experienced any of those traits.

I would say that pretty much describes their personality spot on.
My angora LOVES to explore, and she normally follows me around so I keep almost tripping on her.
She normally likes to be brushed, but does have her limits, especially when the brush pulls on knots. BUT it does all really depend on every rabbit’s own personality. ![]()
My Piglet is a big squishy wuss…. He can be naughty at times and obviously has a sense of humour but generally very gentle and laid back.
Thank you Moxie for your input……an angora might be a choice for me in the future, the closest breeder I could find was 4 hours from me and they currently did not have what I was looking for but I’m in no hurry so I will just wait. Any further info or advice is greatly appreciated.
Moxy asked:Are Piglet’s babies mixed breed?
Sorry, only just saw this… Yes, Pepper is a silver Marten but all the girls got Piglets colouring whilst Nermal Nomnoms got the shortest coat, Pipi is short coat but fluffy and Blossom is just a big ball of floof like Dad..
Moxie- yup, Fox is my boy. And thanks!
Darren- Fox is pretty mellow. He is curious and enjoys to be up high. He’s a digger and, unfortunately, likes to pluck the carpet. He likes to hop around and check things out, but he doesn’t zoom around like his tail is on fire, like my lop does. He also ADORES being pet. I just finished grooming his belly, which obviously annoyed him. When I set him down, he thumped at me, then immediately nudged my hand and put his head down so i’d pet him. Angoras are bred to be mellow and enjoy the attention and petting, since they have to be groomed regularly.
Here’s my boy. I love his mutton chops!

My Moxie never chews the floor/wall, she is very good about that, but library books beware! ![]()
Love the first pic, he reminds me of an old man or something ![]()
I wonder why he has all that fluffy fur on his face? French Angoras aren’t supposed to be fluffy on the face…But he sure looks darn cute! Here are some pics from online that shows some coloration/patterns:
(Those are the only pics are drown you with for now.
