I would very much appreciate any thoughts on my little baby’s poo problems. Alfie is 2 (just turned on 3rd June), he’s a very happy, loving little man who is happily bonded to 2 bunnies. Almost 3 weeks ago, one of his partners had a toe removed so was missing overnight whilst at the vets. Alfie was fine during this time, ate well and pooped but did search for his partner regularly. Then when he returned Alfie went straight for cuddles and ate with him then quickly slumped and seemed in pain, his ears were cold and he felt swollen. We rushed him to the vets and he was examined. They ruled out a blockage and took bloods which come bk fine, he was given a full health check including teeth and all come bk except his tummy felt firm still and he had no appetite so we gave him meds/critical care/loves overnight. No improvement by morning so bk to the vets for an x ray and more bloods, both come bk fine no blockage nor gas so bk home with same routine – ranitidine, critical care, fibreplex, pineapple juice & water, veggies offered constantly and his fave foods. He very slowly improved and began eating and pooping by the 3rd day.
3 weeks later and he is back to normal food/drink/play/general amazingness ways but his poops are still tiny, black and hard. I am at a total loss as to what is causing this. He had a few stringy poops so I groom him regularly, as well as his partners, he has fresh water, hay and grass all day, healthy fresh veggies twice a day, he plays and exercises, his relationships are normal and happy so I don’t understand why his poops are not improving.
It has been warmer lately but it is the uk so it hasn’t been very hot. Now my partner and I have an evening away coming up and I can’t bring myself to go because I don’t want to upset Alfie’s routine if his tummy still isn’t great.
Does anyone have any ideas or experience of a long period of bad poops? Or any ideas on things I might be missing?
