Tomorrow I am going to the shelter and possibly bring a bun home. I have a few questions. When I bring it home how do I help it adjust? Should I wait a few days before floor time or interacting? Do I just take it out of the carrier and put it in its cage as soon as it gets home? Thanks

So is the rabbit’s name going to be Bacon?

I would just play it by ear. Make sure you have everything you need for bunny before bringing him/her home and have everything set up. That way bunny will be in the surroundings that they can expect to be in for awhile. Keep things quiet for the first day or two. If bunny is curious and wants to interact relatively quickly, then it is okay to let them explore in a controlled area (I wouldn’t let them have run of the entire house right away). If bunny is still feeling shy, then just give him/her more time. Some bunnies are outgoing and will want to check things out pretty much immediately. Other bunnies are more shy and it will take them more time to adjust. So just see how things go the first couple of days and then go from there. After that you can work on bonding with them. Laying on the floor and letting them check you out and hand-feeding them pellets are good ways to get to know bunny better. Don’t try to force anything. Too much too soon might set you back in the bonding process.

If the cage is big enough I always place the crate down, open the door, and leave it be in the cage. Giving the newcomer the opportunity to come out on his own. Did that with Harley and Bam when I first brought them home on two different occasions. And they both stayed in their cage the remainder of the day. Yesterday they seemed more content and ready to explore. Sally took the longest to adjust when I brought her home. She took a few weeks to even leave her cage lol though I left the door open. It took her a few weeks and then another couple weeks to really trust me.
