My daughter and I have been having so much fun putting together a little garden for Melody Elizabeth. We live in military housing and aren’t allowed to put a garden in the ground, so we spent the whole afternoon potting Kale, romaine, red lettuce, collard greens, peppermint, orange mint, catnip, parsley, cilantro, lemon balm, strawberries and violas. And we live on a wildlife refuge, so we have unlimited access to pesticide-free wild goodies. Wild roses, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, HUGE dandelions and who knows what else! Goose and I are taking a class on alaskan edible plants this weekend, so we’ll learn to identify all the plants that are safe to eat, and we can use that to figure out what we can bring home from our hikes for Melody.

What a lucky bunny! That’s so awesome, I told the hubby the other day I planned on starting an indoor garden for our bunnies too! And Melody Elizabeth, what a fantastic name for a bun!

I, too, want to start a bunny garden. I buy beets in the store for the tops, but I’m the only one who likes the actual beets. And I asked a neighbor if I could have any cucumber leaves, but he said he wouldn’t have any cukes if he took leaves off. I’m So thrilled to have the dandelions in bloom. I’m a bit phobic about parasites outside, but hopefully not giving them, like dandelions with the roots and dirt helps prevent that. My vet told me to wash them. I don’t know if she thought I needed something to do or if it really helps, but I do. So fun to hunt for food isn’t it? I get a strange thrill from this. So I plan to start a garden if I have time, but will be growing them just for those leaves. People already know I’m weird, so oh well. Does anyone know if you can feed leaves from the black “cap” bushes and is it ok to feed berry leaves any time? I heard to feed them before the berries come out, but I’m assuming I could feed more mature leaves if the buns eat them.
