So here is my story. I personally rescued my rabbit Cloud who is a cottontail rabbit who is not spayed and is a female. I recently started using litter boxes as soon as I heard about them on Youtube. My rabbit blissfully learned how to use them and it was great. Now, here is where the digging comes in. Last week I noticed that there were little bits of her litter outside of her litter box all throughout the week. I put the litter back in there and then never thought about it. On Saturday I found 2 hand fulls of litter outside her litter box. I was annoyed but then put it back in so she knows not to do it. But last night….. That was horrible. Cloud stays in my room when the weather is not well for a rabbit, but she normally lives outside. Last night was very humid so she was in my room. I woke up at 2 am to the sound of digging but went back to bed, she did the same thing around 3 am but I just ignored it. But at 4 am, that is when I got up. I turned the bedroom lights on and litter was EVERYWHERE! I could fill another litter box with the litter she dug out of her litter box! I took the litter box out of he cage but left the litter for me to clean in the morning. So my question is, why is she doing this? Is it hormonal? Should I put litter screens in until she is spayed (which will be on Wednesday)?
