  So, I’ve been giving Holly her meds for post spay in mushed up banana and apple, and it was working well, until today I put in the little plate and she immediately took off thumping and is still hiding. Can she smell the meds now in the food? Or is she just hiding from me? I had her cage door open for a while this morning and had given her a small treat and some pets and she seemed fine, but as soon as I put in her plate of apple/medicine mush she took off. This was the first time I mixed the two meds in the same mush, so maybe that’s the reason?
  
  Also, if she’s now refusing to take her meds this way I’m not sure how I’m going to get them in her. She really thrashes around when I try to hold her and give them, and she won’t take them on her own from the syringe (I tasted her Bayril and it’s discussing). So, my second question is, if she’s eating almost back to normal, and doesn’t seem uncomfortable, is it necessary to force her to take pain meds? She also has an antibiotic as a preventative, is that necessary, too?

  I think pain meds for animals has just taken hold in the past decade or so. So I wouldn’t worry about those. But I don’t know why they would give antibiotics for preventative unless something happened during surgery to worry them, like a broken glove? Maybe they’ve had trouble in the past with rabbits getting infections, but I don’t think you’d be out of line to question it with the vet. I’m not on much and maybe you’ve posted when she was spayed, but if it’s been 5 days or more, maybe they’d let you stop. DONT stop just cuz I’m saying this off the cuff. Call them before the weekend.

  She was spayed on Tuesday so it’s only been a little over 2 days. She’s eating well and her incision area looks clean/not red or swollen. I plan on calling the vet tomorrow though, but she seems to be doing alright with the little to no medicine getting in her.
  
  Are antibiotics not usually prescribed? He said that because rabbits tend to bother their stitches he gives an antibiotic just in case the area gets irritated to prevent an infection.

  I’ve never had a vet prescribe baytril post spay or neuter. But I understand his reason and I would just call him to make sure this is okay with him – most of the time vets have reasons for the protocol they use in their practice.

  I called her vet yesterday morning and he said, while getting as much bayril in her as possible would be good, not to stress her (or myself) out too much with it if she’s eating and acting normally. Just to monitor her incision and if I notice anything abnormal to bring her back in.
  
  So it seems all is well. And as to her hiding from my first post, I think it was definitely her hiding from the medicine. lol She’s back to normal now and staring at me with angry eyes to be let out of her cage, poor girl.

  Just when I thought I was in the clear, she’s irritated her incision. It’s only slightly red in one spot, like it had bled a tiny bit but stopped quickly. I did manage to get some antibiotics in her after I saw this by putting it on her salad. The area she irritated is right next to the incision, but do you think it warrants a vet visit?
