Hi, two days ago I got my bunnies home. They are two jersey woollies 8 and 10 weeks old, and one Netherlands dwarf 8 weeks. I noticed the nethie was itching his head and ears a lot and also appeared to be binky on the spot. Like he gets a fright from something and jumps, then runs away. I wonder if he is running from an itch? It doesn’t seem contented or happy like a playing thing and even through the night he was scooting in his cage all over the place going in behind the plastic bedroom dome and crashing into stuff.
The lady who sold me him says to check for eggs in his ears because it seems to be an itch. I can’t see anything visible, how deep in the ears do I need to look? Perhaps a vet will see something I don’t?
Now I notice the jerseys are doing the same random irritated running away and jumping twitching and flicking ears. There is no sign or mites or fleas on the skin.
Are they just having fun? Learning to twitch out of a predators grip? Or do you think there is something generally wrong going on?
I am new to rabbits and have only seen them at the breeders eating and chilling out.
Are they just settling in to their new home? They don’t appear alert to the things around them when they twitch but maybe something in their peripherals is scaring them and they run?
I can either go to the vet today ( the day after a public holiday long weekend which will be busy and booked right up) or I have to wait until next week when I get a day off to take them in.
