  I am looking at getting a mini lop very soon. There are a few breeders nearby that will be having litters over the next few weeks so will be ready in July to be taken home. I have seen one who has some which are now 8 weeks and are ready to go, but I vaguely remember seeing something on their information that suggests they are mini lop ‘x’ french lops. I know that french lops are generally seen as the biggest lop variety-
  
  anyone have any idea what sort of size a mini-french cross could get to?
  
  I would much prefer my bun to be of the smaller size but im also impatient and the kits just looked absolutely gorgeous and im more than ready to bring one home tomorrow 🙂

  One thing to keep in mind with a bunny that may end up being on the larger side is they need double the space. It sounds like from your other post you have room for a single small-medium sized bun. A large rabbit needs a minimum of 4′ X 4′ (16 sq ft) which is double the space.
  
  I know it’s easy to be impatient but I would focus on getting supplies and housing put together (it didn’t sound like you’d built the NIC yet on the other post). Having everything ready makes it that much easier for you and the bunny when you find the right one to bring home.

  Thanks for your reply. I phoned the breeder today to clarify, and it turns out they are dwarf french lops. I am in the uk, so this would be a US mini lop, judging by the ‘lop translation’ threads i have read on here, so size wise that should be ok. I cant believe how confusing it is to work out which breed is which based on which country you are in!
  
  I am going to visit again after work today to have another look and get some more info. So there may be a new addition to my family very soon!
  
  You are right, I haven’t built my condo yet- I have decided instead to initially buy a bunny cage which is 2ft x 4ft x 2ft- partly just to give us time to build the condo exactly as we want to optimize space, and also because I was a little bit worried about having a baby bun getting stuck or caught in the gaps as I have read lots of horror stories.
  
  So the plan is to get just the one bunny for now, use the cage for its home for the next few months until it gets a little bigger, then get the condo construction going once I am used to having a pet bun and THEN consider whether to get a second one if i can make enough room to house them comfortably. Otherwise, it will be just the one, and my mum will have to come round for lots of playdates with him/ her whilst I am at work 🙂 He/ she will have plenty of playtime out of the cage when I am home anyway. And it might be handy having the cage anyway as back up accommodation in the future for if I do get a second one and need to keep them apart during the bonding process and/or before being neutered.

  So are they pure Mini Lops or Mini Lop x Mini French Lop (which you said is actually a Mini Lop)? I’m kinda confused now, too…
  
  If they are a cross, I would stay away from them. No reputable breeder would ever intentionally produce mixed rabbits. That’s what backyard breeders do simply to make money. If you are happy with a mixed breed, I would encourage you to consider adopting from a shelter rather than supporting a breeder with questionable breeding practices.

  LOL – I agree with Hazel – the term Dwarf French Lops is confusing and I’ve never heard this before. It does sound like backyard breeding to me as well – you may not be sure what you are actually getting.
  
  Perhaps you should look at full grown rescue rabbits :~)

  No they are not a cross, that was my mistake for not paying enough attention to begin with as I wasn’t so clued up on breeds at first. It is a dwarf lop and both parents are the same breed. The sign I read had dwarf lop AND mini lop on it just for people who were more familiar with the American terminology, rather than saying it was as a cross between them both. I was very confused at first as well, but I have done some digging around and they are a genuine breed, just misleading because of different countries having different names.
