Hello! I am new here. I just got a baby bunny a little over a week ago and I have some questions about the floor of his cage. For most of his first week I had pet bedding in his cage. It was the kind that came in different colors. I planned on litter box training him, but figured he was too young at 6 weeks, but then I talked to a friend who said her bunny learned to use the litter box right away when he was still a baby.
I decided to put a newspaper-based rabbit litter in his litter box, but even with that he still didn’t use it completely, so I decided to take the blue bedding out of his cage. I think he confused that with litter. After I did that he started to use his litter box more, not completely, but definitely more.
That is good I think, but now his cage bottom is just plastic and I am wondering if there’s a good alternative I could try so he will be more comfortable and not slip and slide everywhere in there.
Along with his cage I bought him a playpen which I put him in at least half an hour a day. He really enjoys that. The bottom of the playpen is some sort of fabric with plastic underneath to protect carpets. When he plays in there he is able to have more control because there is more traction. His cage is too slippery and I am wondering if I should put some sort of covering in there for him.
Thanks for any help!
