A friend of mine from Valdosta, GA recently contacted me about a lop-eared bunny that she’s looking to find a home for. He was given to her coworker’s neighbor for Easter, but the neighbor didn’t want to take care of him and was going to just release him into the wild (!!!!!). Luckily, my friend’s coworker saved him, but he doesn’t want to take care of him long-term. My friend messaged me because I’m the only person she knows with a pet rabbit, asking what they could do about the poor thing. I told them to look for no-kill shelters nearby, and call them to ask if they take in rabbits. I told her to make sure that he was fed primarily timothy hay, that he was kept inside, and that he had plenty of fresh water, and I sent her a list of rabbit-safe veggies.
I’d like to prevent him being taken to a shelter if I could, because I know it sometimes takes rabbits ages to be adopted, and that they’re sometimes adopted by people who don’t know what it takes to tend to them properly. If she can’t find anything suitable, I’m going to meet her in Albany and take the bunny in myself, to prevent him from going to a shelter where he will probably end up euthanized. I’m not exactly prepared to take care of two bunnies, and Nyx, despite being fixed, is still anti-social at best, but I at least know what I’m doing and have the proper equipment and food to take care of him until I can find a good home.
(Admin Edited out portion that breaks the rules here)
There’s a picture of him at attached! (This was before I sent info about proper food, btw. And I’m referring to him as male because that’s what my friend’s been doing, but I’m not sure if they really know the sex or not. To be honest, I can’t even really estimate the breed or age.)
