I was reading a little more about composting, and it looks like the wood stove pellets are basically carbon, while the poo is nitrogen. Since you want about 2-3 parts carbon to 1 part of nitrogen, I think this might work out ideally. Some people worry about the sodium in the pellets, but others say it is no big deal. Mostly, they are not recommended for composting because of how expensive they are, but I am already going to be throwing them out, so it isn’t like I am only buying them to compost.
I also looked into worm composting, and it looks like wood stove pellets are a good option for them as well. I’m not sure I have a shaded enough area in the yard, plus a 50+ gallon trash can is much larger than a 20 or 30 gallon Rubbermaid tub, but it is another option I will be looking into.
So, for direct usage, poo alone, but for composting it looks like mixing is the way to go! Plus I am not sure if I could do direct usage with the dogs… They love their chocolate jellybeans! I really do need some sort of compost, and once I have one my household waste will be probably cut in half (if we aren’t including recyclables!).
