I wanted to share a tip I discovered yesterday. On Saturday, as I was getting Chloe’s new “room” ready and lining her box with fresh hay, a piece of the hay got stuck under the skin on my finger. It hurt and I couldn’t get it out, so I figured I would wait and see if it would come out on it’s own. The next morning, though, it was red and inflamed–ouch! Suggestions online were to apply glue to the area overnight and then rip it off in the morning… which also sounds painful. I figured I would give it a shot that night if it didn’t come out on it’s own that day.
It was Easter Sunday, and I was preparing various dishes. While scooping some sticky honey out of a jar, a glob dripped off and stuck to my finger. My fiance was being a goof and licked it off
…and… voila! The hay splinter was gone! The honey actually was sticky enough to pull it out from under the skin. (And my fiance hasn’t reported any splintery side effects
).
It feels totally better today. Now I’m going to be using gardening gloves as a precaution when handling hay, but if it happens another time, I will use the “honey trick” again!
I hope someone finds this helpful… Any other tips for getting the hay out?
