You have a male and female? If she’s making a nest and becoming aggressive, then that would mean babies are coming (or a false pregnancy and she simply thinks babies are coming).

I don’t think it’s cruel to spay a female rabbit if it means she won’t die from reproductive cancer. I believe you created a thread before asking about the importance of spaying. It really is for their health.

Getting them spayed is not a form of animal cruelty. Getting your rabbits spayed will prevent them from getting cancer (which is almost guaranteed to happen if they are not spayed by the way) as well as prevents hormonal problems, behavioral problems and overall makes them better companions to you. I am not trying to be mean but it is not cruel if you are doing something for your pets health. You help them live longer and happier lives.

Now assuming she is not actually pregnant, I was reading your past posts and are you sure your holland lop is a girl? Its possible she is actually a he and got your dutch pregnant. But if you are completely sure then she is probably going through a false pregnancy which if you get her spayed wont happen anymore. I would assume its kind of stressful on rabbits when they go through that.

She will show aggression because she is hormonal and if nesting then very territorial… It’s not a pleasant time for them..
I know many people think they are being kind by not desexing but the moment we as humans decided to domesticate the first animal be it cattle, dogs, cats we had to make some concessions to make their lives better… Desexing and vaccinating is part of that… Whilst we generally don’t use desexing to modify human behavior (some countries do ) it’s something that has been considered and when you think about it men have vasectomies to end fertility and women have their tubes tied, hysterectomies etc often to prevent or end an illness such as cancer… I personally lost an ovary many years ago due to a tumor. If a hysterectomy was going to save my life I’d be on that operating table post haste… Angelina Jolie recently had a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer so in many ways we do rely on these same principals to maintain our own health. I’m not saying this to badger you but to hopefully more fully highlight the options.

Maybe you could take them in for a health check first to help set your mind at ease… One of my foster girls was spayed recently and she did have complications due to her Mother Pandora being a sickly starved young bunny (who is now spayed herself and in the pink of health) Suki pulled through brilliantly after a day or so… If you are prepared for good post care and they have a clean bill of health before hand then you should be fine… But speak to your vet, explain any concerns and see what they say.. Ask about post op pain management, my vet uses a slow release pain med and antibiotic and they also give something to maintain gut motility… So far so good and I’m getting to be an old hand at this.

I suppose the other possible plus is once spayed you may be able to bond them and it might help with some of the other anxiety..

No one can ever be 100% certain that they will make it through surgery. There’s never a guarantee that nothing at all will ever go wrong in any kind of surgery, minor or major (this applies to humans as well). If you want to learn the success rate of spays/neuters at any particular animal hospital, I’m sure the vets there would know.

There is some amount of risk in every surgical procedure, but the risk of an unaltered rabbit developing cancer is much higher than the risk of encountering complications in a routine spay/neuter.

Nothing really to add here. I think all of your points were addressed. At this point, they are behaving normally for being intact.

You don’t want a vet office with less than 90% of the animal making it through! Mine had under 1% and he did an amazing job!
