Recently, as some folks on the forum already know, I adopted a bunny named Kitty and set about attempting to box-train her. Well, three nights later my then-fiance and I were shipped off to SLC’s cancer hospital. We got married, started him on radiation, finished that, and then came home. We had to move pretty quickly to another apartment closer to the hospital as soon as we got back. Kitty had been staying with my now-father-in-law, and she was fine. Healthy, somewhat lonely, but definitely alright. Now that we’ve got all our stuff back from the old apartment she had just moved into, Kitty has been moved back in with us to yet another home.
Basically I’m afraid that all the stress of moving so much might make her sick or something, but she’s been a very, very pleasant little bun since we got home. She was out for two hours today with no wees or poops on the carpet for a while. She had an accident right at the very end of her play-time where she scooted up against our front door and wee’d on the hardwood beside the carpet. I corralled her back into her cage and cleaned up, but other than a few territorial nibbles and digs, she’s been an outright joy. It feels like she’s bonded with me even after I had to leave her for all that time, and so soon after we’d gotten her. I felt so guilty leaving her with another family before she’d even begun to trust us, but she’s apparently a very, very gracious bun. I’m very pleased, but also somewhat concerned. I expected her to be unhappy and angry, but with no other options available, I had to let her stay where she was headed. Even her litter behavior has improved. Since, as I mentioned before in other posts, I don’t have any litterboxes, I’ve gated off a portion of our living room where her cage is and started letting her roam around there, letting her use her cage as a box. I’m just shocked, I guess. She is incredibly well-behaved.
-edit-
I forgot to mention, she doesn’t spray us anymore, at least not yet. She hasn’t done that at all. She’s also begun to trust me much more with picking her up, and I’ve been letting her take more responsibility when it comes to going in and out of the cage. She doesn’t kick at all anymore.
