This is the only cage I’ve ever made and would like to share it with you to maybe get opinions, tips, and new ideas. At first I purchased a wire cage kit from Tractor Supply that I don’t recommend to anyone. The edges are very sharp like barbed wire and I was cut several times while assembling it. The tin food dish it came with was razor sharp on the edges too and I threw it away. However, I do like the plastic tray it came with. These are also sold separately at Tractor Supply. I ended up keeping the cage after much filing on the sharp edges and adding onto it. To add onto it I used two wire organizer kits from Target.

These kits are awesome for cage making! I bought another 2ft x 2ft plastic tray from Tractor Supply and put it beside the first one that came with that awful cage, and extended the cage to fit using the wire squares from the kits. Which made the cage in the end be 2ft x 4ft. I believe this is the minimum size for one rabbit so it works, but I still plan to add more room onto it later. Although Mocha is out of it more than not. I only put her up in it when I’m at work or otherwise away from home for her safety and my peace of mind. The only part I don’t like about using these trays for the floor is that there is a lip in the middle when slid together. I’m sure my husband could cut that out though using the proper tools. I put a blanket over the floor for comfort since Mocha don’t like slick surfaces. So this helps a little with the lip for now. The cage just sits down over the trays so it can easily be moved and cleaned. I also made the top able to be lifted up on one side for easier access to the litterbox. It seems to be the perfect set up so far. Simple to make, affordable, and in the end it looks like an expensive kennel. Accept the wire from the first cage on the one side, but I will eventually do away with that part and use the black wire organizing kit squares all over.
