I have a rabbit that’s a rescue, her name is Kira. She is about two years old and about a month ago had GI stasis. During this time, she had a slight loss of litter habits. She would poop and urinate on the floor as well as her litter box. Kira was treated by the vet and continued her normal eating habits and would only use the litter box. She seemed fine up until two weeks ago when she would urinate in two specific places in her cage/play area. Then there was a third spot-which is where she normally sleeps at night. She has started to sit in her urine (in one of these three spots) until her fur soaks it up. She is smelly, urine soaked, and wet. She does this everyday. Kira is neutered and never had any health or litter problems up until the GI stasis. I’ve only had her for 7 months but she never marked her territory like this, so I don’t know if that’s the case. I don’t understand the whole sitting in the urine thing because that is consistent so she is obviously doing it for a reason. Just to mention, Kira is a very skiddish bunny and it was apparent to me that she has had a tough past. It took time for her to let us pet her. She keeps to herself but is still making progress with socializing. She had a phase where she would chew on her chest hairs. The vet said it could be a sign of stress. She stopped that habit, thankfully. Kira also spends a lot of time by herself in a large pen. We interact with her whenever were home which is when she is allowed to roam freely. I don’t know if these urine symptoms are an infection, a sign of depression/stress, or just a phase. I’m bringing it up here because I’d like to know your input before I make an appointment at the vet. My wallet is still recovering from the ER bills and vet visit from the GI stasis. I’d like to know if anybody is familiar with this situation. Thanks!
