I have a bonded pair and am wondering about the dynamics of adding a third bunny. I recently met a bunny at the SPCA that just melted my heart, but I’m not sure if adding him to my bonded pair is a good idea. Do bunnies do well in trios or is it best that they are in pairs?

Here a little information on my bonded pair: one is a girl and one is a boy, they are both fixed, and they have been bonded for a couple of months. They love each other and are so happy together, and have never had any problems. The male has more of an attitude and he is the territorial and dominant one. My female bunny is just a sweetheart and very calm.

The bunny at the SPCA is a male.. approx 1 year and fixed, of course. He seems very calm and sweet, like my girl bunny. I’m just not sure about the dynamics of having 3 and also don’t want to interfere with my bunnies’ bond either. Any input would be appreciated Thank you!

I have a pair + 1 trio and it absolutely works out! Of course there is always a slight risk of interference with your bonded pair, but if they are well bonded it shouldn’t really be a problem. I would say go for it if you can spend a bit more time bonding than with a pair.

This is what I will be doing soon next month. Is it better to bond the new guy with one on one times with the individuals in the pair. Or should I just throw all the buns together in one big bonding session instead of splitting it up individually.

NBO-I found it best to do both one on one and group sessions. This way you can give more times to the bunnies that need it, while also mimicking the trio, when they are bonded.
